    UPA’s Injustice To OBCs

    Continuing his offensive, PM Modi criticized the UPA government for failing to deliver justice to OBCs. He pointed out the formation of the National Advisory Council during their tenure, questioning its lack of OBC representation and influence. “During the UPA Government, an extra-constitutional body was formed. The government could not have its way before that body. National Advisory Council – did it have any OBC members? Find out,” he added.

    Inflation Legacy Of Congress: PM

    PM Modi delved into history, linking Congress to inflation. He recalled popular songs during Congress governance – ‘Mehngai Mar Gayi’ and ‘Mehngai Dayain Khaye Jaat Hai.’ Blaming Congress for inflation during their rule, he highlighted the insensitivity of their approach. “Two songs on inflation were superhits in our country – ‘Mehngai Mar Gayi’ and ‘Mehngai Dayain Khaye Jaat Hai’. Apart from this, no action was taken against the policemen who assaulted them.

    The wife of the victim Anurag has filed a written complaint in the police station demanding action against the policemen of Dial 112. CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the lawyer’s house. The video of policemen assaulting the lawyer has been captured on camera. Despite this, no action has been taken by Sarkanda Police against the staff of Dial 112. On the second day of the incident, the entire group of lawyers submitted a memorandum to the SP and IG, demanding a fair investigation. Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh has said that action will be taken after investigating this incident within two days.

    New Delhi: Google introduced a new image generation feature for its AI chatbot Bard recently. This functionality is similar to Microsoft’s Copilot which enables users to generate AI-created images by providing text prompts to the chatbot. There are reports suggesting that Google intends to rename its chatbot Bard to Gemini, mirroring Microsoft’s rebranding of its AI chatbot Bing to Copilot.

    Dylan Roussel, a developer on X platform (formerly Twitter), shared a recently discovered changelog from Google. The changelog reportedly outlines upcoming updates for the AI chatbot Google Bard. As per the provided screenshot these updates are scheduled for release on February 7, and among the changes is the replacement of the name Bard with Gemini.     This decision is in line with Google’s strategy to incorporate its LLM model Gemini across various products. Gemini serves as the AI model powering Bard indicating that Google may be opting to promote its AI model Gemini more broadly.     In addition to the name change, the changelog screenshot suggests that Google is considering the introduction of a paid ‘Advanced’ tier featuring Gemini Ultra. Similar to OpenAI’s subscription model for its advanced large language model GPT-4, Google is reportedly planning to offer an upgraded version of Gemini at a fee.

    This enhanced version is expected to bring improved multi-modal capabilities, enhanced coding support, and the ability to explore and analyze files and documents more extensively. Furthermore, the release of Gemini is extending to include Canada, marking its first availability in the country since the initial launch.

    Last year, Google introduced its LLM model called Gemini, comprising three versions: Gemini Nano, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Ultra. Google claims that its LLM model can handle intricate tasks such as logical reasoning, coding, interpreting nuanced instructions, and engaging in creative collaboration.

    Google has intentions to release a specialized Gemini application for mobile users. The Gemini app, designed by Google, allows users to leverage Google AI for tasks like learning, writing, and planning directly on their smartphones. This app will integrate with other Google services such as Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. Android users will have a standalone app for Gemini, while iOS users might access it through the Google app.

    As per a leaked Google changelog, the Gemini app is expected to have limited availability which would be accessible only on specific devices. The app will also feature support for additional languages like Japanese, Korean, and English covering most parts of the world, excluding certain European countries and regions.

    Google has future plans to incorporate more countries and languages into the Gemini app. It’s essential to highlight that while Google has not officially confirmed these details, significant announcements are anticipated later this week.

    Firefighters in central Chile on Sunday battled to quell fierce forest fires that have killed 112 people so far and razed entire neighborhoods, while President Gabriel Boric warned the country faces a “tragedy of very great magnitude.”

    Hundreds of people are still missing, authorities say, stoking fears the death toll will keep climbing as more bodies are found on hillsides and houses devastated by the wildfires. The fires that gathered momentum on Friday now threatened the outer edges of Vina del Mar and Valparaiso, two coastal cities popular with tourists. The urban sprawl of those cities accounts for more than a million residents west of the capital Santiago.

    Drone footage filmed by Reuters in Vina del Mar area showed whole neighborhoods scorched, with residents rummaging through husks of burnt-out houses where corrugated iron roofs have collapsed. On the streets, sung cars littered the roads.

    “The wind was terrible, the heat scorching. There was no respite. People dispersed everywhere,” said Pedro Quezada, a local builder in the Valparaiso region, standing amid charred debris of his destroyed home.

    Videos shared on social media showed hillside fires burning close to apartment blocks in the Valparaiso area, spewing smoke into the air. Thick haze blanketed other urban zones, hobbling visibility.

    Chilean authorities have introduced a 9 pm curfew in the hardest-hit areas and sent in the military to help firefighters stem the spread of fires, while helicopters dumped water to try to douse the flames from the air.

    Chile’s Legal Medical Service, the state coroner, said 112 people have died in the fires. The death toll stood at 51 on Saturday.

    Earlier in the day Boric, announcing two days of national mourning starting on Monday, said Chile should prepare itself for more bad news.

    “It is Chile as a whole that suffers and mourns our dead,” Boric said in a televised speech to the nation. “We are facing a tragedy of very great magnitude.”

    Deputy Interior Minister Manuel Monsalve on Sunday said 165 fires raged across Chile and estimated about 14,000 homes have been damaged in the Vina del Mar and Quilpué areas alone.

    Those who returned to their ravaged homes found them almost unrecognizable, with many losing all their life’s possession.

    Sergio Espejo, 64, a welder, poked through the ashes of his soldering workshop and home in the Vina del Mar region with his wife, Maria Soledad Suarez.

    Suarez, 61, was able to retrieve a plate and part of a porcelain doll from the embers as she scoured the ground in search of jewelry. Espejo, lamenting the loss of all his tools scattered beneath mangled iron beans, gazed at the damage.

    “Here is my workshop, it’s totally destroyed,” he said. “All the sacrifice, all in a lifetime.”

    Although wildfires are not uncommon during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer, the lethality of these blazes stands out, making them the country’s worst national disaster since the 2010 earthquake in which about 500 people died.

    Last year, on the back of a record heat wave, some 27 people died and more than 400,000 hectares (990,000 acres) of land were affected.

    Boric has sought to channel funds to the hardest-hit areas, many of which are popular with tourists.

    “We are together, all of us, fighting the emergency. The priority is to save lives,” Boric said.

    Kuldeep Yadav bowled a ball to Crawley. Crawley tried to hit the ball off the back foot but missed, and the ball hit his leg. The umpire initially said it wasn’t out, but India asked for a review. The review showed that the ball would have hit the stumps, and Crawley was declared out. This was a crucial wicket just before lunch, as Crawley had been batting well for England, scoring 73 runs.

    What’s the debate over the dismissal?

    The England camp was surprised to see the dismissal. Twitter also started to debate the wicket. It looked not out by naked eyes and umpire Marais Erasmus also judged it as same. But th as per the DRS, the ball tracker said that the impact was on the line. However, various screenshots by the fans suggest that the ball was already in line and spinning away from the leg stump before hitting the pads.

    The screenshots indicate that only 2.5 stumps were visible when the ball made contact with the batsman’s leg. According to standard rules, Hawk-Eye should not be giving a ‘hitting’ result on the stumps in such a scenario; at most, it should have been considered umpire’s call. India seems to have benefited from a fortunate turn of events with this decision.

    One fan, who kep a close eye on the game, tweeted: “That looked very off honestly. 3rd stump was almost visible when the ball hit the pads. Very hard to believe that impact was in line, not even in umpire’s call.”

    It will be interesting to see what are umpires’ thoughts are at the end of the match. England, looks like, may have been done in by a technological error. Not that India is worrying too much about it, at the moment. England, too, can do very little about it. Technology is never 100 percent but it makes decisions more accurate. However, it too errs at time and cricketers will have to live by this fact.
