  • Meta’s X Rival Threads Has 130 Million Active Users Now |

    New Delhi: Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared that Threads, Meta’s text-based conversation app, has achieved a milestone with over 130 million monthly active users. This figure surpasses the peak levels Threads experienced immediately after its launch in July 2023.

    During Meta’s earnings call, Zuckerberg expressed his optimism regarding Threads’ continued growth, emphasizing ongoing improvements and increasing user engagement. He highlighted that the current active user count exceeds the initial surge observed at the app’s launch.     Back in July 2023, Zuckerberg had ambitious plans for Threads, envisioning it as Meta’s next billion-user platform alongside established platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.     In comparison to X (formerly Twitter) with around 550 million monthly active users, Threads has room for growth. Meta is actively investing to scale the app, addressing initial usage decline issues by swiftly introducing key features like keyword search and multiple account support.

    Meta’s focused efforts on enhancing Threads with features such as editing capabilities, voice posts, improved discovery, and more have yielded positive results.

    Daily downloads nearly tripled to 28 million in December. The app’s expansion into the EU and increased integration with Instagram profiles further contributed to its growth.

    Looking ahead, Meta’s CFO stated that the company is committed to scaling Threads’ community even further by introducing additional features and enhancements throughout 2024.

When this information was not given till now, Bhujbal said that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis had asked him to remain silent on this matter.

    Addressing an OBC rally in Ahmednagar, Bhujbal said that I remained silent on this (resignation), but some people are now demanding Bhujbal’s removal from the cabinet for speaking in favor of OBCs. I will fight for OBCs till my last breath. Bhujbal was referring to Shiv Sena’s Buldhana MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, who had used derogatory words against Bhujbal and sought his resignation from the post of minister.

    This was the first public rally of the OBC community after the Shinde government of Maharashtra on January 27 issued a notification to issue Kunbi certificates to blood relatives of members of the Maratha community with Kunbi background. Reacting to Bhujbal’s comment, Fadnavis said that the Chief Minister would be more capable of commenting on Bhujbal’s resignation.   • Massive Wildfires In Chile Kills 51, Toll Expected to Climb | world news

    Forest fires raging in central Chile have killed at least 51 people and the death toll is likely to keep climbing, authorities said on Saturday, as emergency services battled to snuff out flames threatening urban areas.

    Black smoke billowed into the sky over many parts of the Valparaiso region, home to nearly one million inhabitants in central Chile, while firefighters using helicopters and trucks struggled to quell the fires.

    Areas around the coastal tourist city of Vina del Mar have been some of the hardest hit and rescue teams were struggling to reach all the affected areas, Chilean authorities said.

    The death toll rose when five bodies were found on public roads, and information indicates “we are going to reach much higher figures” in coming hours, said Interior Minister Carolina Toha.

    “The condition of Valparaiso is the most delicate,” Toha said, saying the country was facing its worst disaster since a 2010 earthquake that killed about 500.

    President Gabriel Boric told the nation in a televised address, “The situation is really very difficult.”

    Wildfires are not uncommon in Chile over summer months. Last year, on the back of a record heat wave, some 27 people died and more than 400,000 hectares (990,000 acres) were affected.

    “The area with fires today is much smaller than last year, (but) at this time the number of hectares affected is multiplying very rapidly,” Toha said.

    Between Friday and Saturday the area affected by the wildfires increased to 43,000 hectares (110,000 acres) from 30,000.

    Toha said the authorities’ greatest concern was that some of the active fires were developing very close to urban areas “with the very high potential to affect people, homes and facilities.”
