  • Online Food Delivery Platform Criticized As Girl Dies After Consuming Birthday Cake Ordered Online |

    New Delhi: In a tragic incident, a 10 year old girl’s reported death after consuming her birthday cake ordered online in Patiala. Social media users have expressed outrage towards the online food delivery platform. Criticism has been directed at these platforms for what netizens perceive as inadequate regulation, particularly concerning Cloud kitchens listed on food-delivery apps.

    A case has been filed by the police under Sections 273 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in response to a complaint filed by the family of the deceased girl. The complaint alleged that the girl passed away after consuming the birthday cake, and other family members also became ill after eating it.     According to the bill for the cake ordered by the deceased girl’s mother, Kajal, there is no store named ‘Cake Kanha’ at the listed address in Patiala. Authorities suspect that the bakery operates as a cloud kitchen. Furthermore, another receipt from Zomato indicates that the billing originated from Amritsar, rather than Patiala.     Zomato refrained from providing any comments despite repeated attempts to reach out, as reported by IANS.

    Dr. Nandita Iyer, an experienced food and nutrition columnist, expressed on X platform that Swiggy and Zomato need to clearly indicate on each listing whether it operates as a cloud kitchen. She suggested that this would help customers make informed decisions before placing their orders.

    “Such incidents are a harsh reminder that we have no idea what goes into the food we order from these completely unregulated places,” Iyer wrote on the social media platform.

    Fitness professional Chirag Barjatya said that food safety is a joke.

    “You will be surprised to know that people are running 20 different ‘restaurants’ in 1RK (room kitchen) as cloud kitchens listed over food-delivering apps. You have no idea how many mice and cockroaches were around the food you just ordered. And you have absolutely no idea if the cooked dal or rice you ordered has expired,” Barjatya posted on X. After some time, some people saw the girl in an unconscious state in the forest and informed the police about the incident, after which the girl was admitted to Baikunthpur District Hospital. However, after the incident, the police registered a case of rape and arrested the accused Nilesh Kumar (alleged lover) and his associate Bechan Sai Yadav and sent them to jail.

    According to the information, the family members discharged the rape victim girl, who was admitted to the District Hospital Baikunthpur in a critical condition after 20 days, and took her home. Due to lack of proper care at home, she suffered from a serious disease like septicemia. The girl’s condition kept worsening day by day.

    After that, IOCL asked the girl lying at home in a critical condition to be taken to a good hospital in Raipur for treatment. A local official took the initiative. After the activation of the local district administration, the girl was brought to Raipur in critical condition. During this time the girl was on oxygen and her hemoglobin had reached 2 grams, the infection had spread throughout her body. His hope of survival was gone. On 22 February 2024, despite many hours of tireless efforts, the girl could not be admitted to any government hospital. After this, in view of his critical condition, he was admitted to a private burn unit at Pachpedhi Naka. As soon as the Health Minister came to know about the matter, he took immediate action and got about Rs 22 lakh sanctioned for treatment in two installments through the Chief Minister Special Health Assistance Scheme.

    Despite apprehensions about the impact on Palestinian civilians, Washington has proceeded with the arms packages, signaling its unwavering support for Israel’s defense strategies, the report added.

    The recent authorizations include a substantial arsenal of munitions, comprising over 1,800 MK84 2,000-pound bombs and 500 MK82 500-pound bombs, as confirmed by Pentagon and State Department officials familiar with the matter. The decision to greenlight such significant weaponry raises eyebrows, particularly given the lethal history of the 2,000-pound bombs in previous Israeli military campaigns in Gaza, which have resulted in mass casualties, as reported by The Washington Post.

    While the Biden administration has expressed concerns about the potential ramifications of an Israeli offensive in southern Gaza, it has refrained from conditioning aid or imposing restrictions on arms transfers.     Following his side’s 21-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mayank Yadav, who impressed everyone with his fiery pace of above 150 kmph on his debut, said that he was not nervous.

    Debutant Mayank Yadav’s magnificent four over spell restricted the Punjab Kings (PBKS) to 178/5 and helped his side Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a victory by 21 runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

    Following the game, Mayank said in the post-match presentation, “I have always heard from others that there is nervousness in debuts but that goes away after the first ball. My plan was to not be under too much pressure, to bowl at the stumps and to use the pace as much as possible. There was the thought of mixing up the pace initially but the wicket helped and the skipper told me to bowl quick. The debut wicket was the favourite. Coming off the injury last season was tough, I would set my goal to debut at a young age but injuries were a setback.”

    Mayank has played two first-class matches, 17 List-A games and 11 T20 matches. He represents Delhi at the domestic level, having made his List-A debut in 2021 and his first-class debut in 2022. The opposition is accusing the centre of ‘abusing’ Central investigative bodies against Opposition leaders.

Instead, I extend an invitation to all 1.4 billion Indians to collectively devise a new India….Even from behind bars, I contemplate the anguish of Mother India. Together, let’s usher in a new era for our country.” She further appealed the public and entrust this alliance with the responsibility to construct a new India with a fresh vision.

    At the Maha Rally held at Ramlila Maidan, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti made the veiled remark on the central government, she said, the Modi government is the most corrupt government. They have indulged in corruption through fund embezzlement and now using ED for recovery. “Presently, the nation faces challenging circumstances. Individuals are being detained without proper investigation. This resembles the ‘Kalyug ka Amrit Kaal’… I’m not referring to specific individuals like Umar Khalid or Mohammad Zubair; rather, I’m addressing your chosen representatives… It’s not unexpected for me. Both Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, along with myself, former CMs, are currently under house arrest… Anyone who defies the law is deemed a traitor…” the former CM of J&K said.
