  • AAP’s Media Crackdown: Zee News Channel Faces Blackout In Mann Ruled Punjab |

The Bhagwan led Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has stopped the telecast of Zee News channel in the state. The black out of the media group comes without any formal notice by the Punjab government. Zee News’ viewers in Punjab have confirmed that they are unable to access the channel. Our viewers termed Mann government’s decision as ‘dictatorial’ and likened it to ban on the press during emergency.

ZEE NEWS has always done journalism based on facts. As the oldest channel in the country, we understand our responsibility towards the people. The Mann government’s action comes amidst our coverage of the Punjab Lok Sabha elections where we raised the issues of the people and highlighted the shortcomings of the government.

The same thing happened during the Emergency. Then the government collapsed. Whenever there has been an attempt to suppress the fourth pillar of democracy… the result has not been good.

No matter how hard Arvind Kejriwal or Bhagwant Mann try, Zee News will continue to show the truth. The reality of people like Kejriwal, who cannot face the truth, will continue to reach the people. The people of Punjab are with Zee News.

  • Cyclone Remal devastates Bangladesh: Death toll rises, millions without power | Top Developments |

At least 10 people were killed and millions were left without power as severe cyclone ‘Remal’ lashed the coasts of Bangladesh with devastating winds of up to 120 kph and storm surges, inundating hundreds of villages. ‘Remal’ weakened into a cyclonic storm on Monday morning, following landfall around midnight of Sunday. The Met Department reported that the weather system, which lay 150 km northeast of Sagar Island at 5.30 am, brought torrential rain and moved northeastwards to weaken further into a cyclonic storm. ‘Remal’ is the first cyclone in the Bay of Bengal ahead of this year’s monsoon season, which runs from June to September.

    Destruction Caused By ‘Remal’

‘Remal’ lashed Bangladesh’s coastlines, levelling thousands of homesteads, smashing seawalls, and flooding scores of villages and towns along the southwestern shorelines. Bangladesh’s junior minister for disaster management and relief, Mohibur Rahman, said that 10 people were killed in the official count so far, while the storm entirely damaged over 35 households and affected over 3.75 million people.

    Cyclone’s Human Toll

According to most media tally, the toll had reached 16, as details of the damage continued to be reported from coastlines. The cyclone has been accompanied by gusty winds and heavy rains, impacting areas including Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Satkhira, and Chattogram. Officials and journalists in coastal areas said that of those deceased, some drowned while others were crushed when their houses collapsed.

    Worst Affected Areas

According to the Met Office, southwestern Patuakhali town was the worst hit by the severe storm. Wind speeds there rose to 111 kilometres per hour, with tidal surges accompanying the storm, flooding and ravaging huge infrastructure, including thatched houses.

    Power outages, infrastructure damage

Power Minister officials said that nearly 3 million people in Bangladesh were without electricity. Residents claimed their cell phone services were inoperative as the devices could not be recharged. The rural power authority has cut off electricity to 15 million people in coastal areas to minimise the damage from ‘Remal’.

    Future Trajectory Of Cyclone ‘Remal’

According to the Met Office, Cyclone Remal has moved northward, crossing the coast and is currently positioned near Koira in Khulna. The cyclone is expected to continue its northward trajectory, bringing increased rainfall and weakening to a lower intensity within the next 2-3 hours.

    Precautions Measures Taken

On Sunday, Bangladesh evacuated nearly 800,000 people from vulnerable areas. Rahman said volunteers have been deployed to move the evacuees to up to 9,000 cyclone shelters. The government also closed all schools in the region until further notice. Bangladesh also suspended loading and unloading in the country’s largest main seaport in Chittagong and moved more than a dozen ships from jetties to the deep sea as a precaution.

Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant revealed that after his life-threatening road accident in December 2022, his injuries were such that he could not even brush his teeth for two months. Pant on Monday featured on the second episode of ‘Dhawan Karenge,’ a talk show hosted by Indian opening batter, Shikhar Dhawan on JioCinema.

During the episode, the 26-year-old cricketer shared his experience after sustaining life-threatening injuries from a horrific accident that left him with multiple fractures and required ligament reconstruction and treatment for a knee injury. These injuries were critical to his career, but he recently made his comeback in IPL 2024 after a 15-month rehabilitation. (‘I will also be lifting the T20 World Cup 2024:’ Rinku Singh)

While opening up on his post-injury experience, Rishabh shares, “Self-belief and self-confidence are very important while recovering from an injury because there are people saying all sorts of things around you, and you, as an individual, have to think about what’s good for you. The accident was a life-changing experience for me. When I got up after it, I was not even sure if I would be alive, but God was very kind to save me. I could not even brush my teeth for two months, and for six to seven months, I suffered with unbearable pain. I could not go to the airport because I was nervous about facing people in a wheelchair.”

He further added, “Now that I am making a comeback in cricket, more than feeling pressure, I am excited. I feel this is kind of a second life, so I am excited but also nervous.” (MS Dhoni to become the next Indian team coach? Virat Kohli’s childhood coach says THIS)

Pant also revealed that one incident in his life that made his mother angry when he was in fifth grade. It was when his father brought him a cricket bat worth Rs 14,000 and his mom got “super angry” with his father’s gift to his son.

“It was my father’s dream to become a cricketer, and I am glad I could fulfil it. I decided I wanted to be a cricketer when I was in the 5th grade. My dad gifted me a bat worth Rs 14,000, and my mom got super angry,” he said.

In the recently concluded IPL 2024, Rishabh’s team Delhi Capitals finished in the sixth spot with seven wins, seven losses and 14 points and failed to move to playoffs. He scored 446 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of over 155 with three half-centuries and emerged as the team’s top run-getter. Now, Pant will make a comeback to international cricket during the ICC T20 World Cup, starting from June 1 in the West Indies and the USA.

  • Ending of exemptions in the provision of e-way bill will curb bogus and raw billing

Raipur. The Commercial Tax (GST) department has abolished the exemption given in the provisions of e-way bill in the state. The government has issued a notification on May 24 itself. It will now be necessary for businessmen in the state to generate e-way bill for transporting goods worth more than 50 thousand rupees. Till now it was not necessary to issue e-way bill for transporting goods within a district in the state. Also, e-way bill was not required for transporting any goods within the state except 15 goods.

Exemption from the provisions of e-way bill was given in the year 2018 because these provisions were new and it was necessary to give time to businessmen/transporters to become well acquainted with these provisions. It has been 6 years now since the provisions of e-way bill were implemented across the country and everyone has become well acquainted with it. It is worth mentioning here that except for one or two states, e-way bill is mandatory for transportation of goods within the state in most of the states of the country. The Central Tax Department has also agreed to end the exemption from e-way bill.

The exemption given in issuing e-way bill has been most misused by those doing circular trading and issuing bogus bills, so the most benefit of ending this exemption will be to those businessmen who pay their taxes honestly, but due to circular trading or issuing bogus bills, they do not get the benefit of ITC. Implementation of the provisions of e-way bill will help the department in stopping circular trading and bogus billing. Ending the exemption given in the provisions of e-way bill will have a positive impact on the environment of tax compliance in the state. This will curb the tendencies of issuing bogus bills, issuing raw bills and evading taxes.

  • Farmers’ land acquired to build a road, officials threaten on asking for compensation, road not built even after the deadline

Sakti. ADB’s arbitrariness can be seen in Sakti district of Chhattisgarh. Farmers’ lands were acquired years ago for road construction in the district. But many farmers are still wandering for compensation. On demanding compensation, the officials are threatening the farmers with the help of the administration.

Even after the deadline has expired and years have passed, the road has not been completed yet. Now, in view of the upcoming monsoon, ADB is preparing to build the road against the rules. Farmers are becoming angry with the government administration due to ADB’s arbitrariness and not getting compensation.

Learn about the case in detail

In fact, years ago, the land of farmers was acquired for road construction and widening of the Sakti to Tundri road of length 31-481 km and Malkharoda to Jaijaipur road in the district. In which, as per the amendment dated 27-09-2017 of the government order number F 7-4-1/20215 dated 30 March 2016 regarding the purchase of additional land for the Sakti-Tundri road, compensation was given to the farmers of village Karrapali and Jharra.

Many of these farmers did not agree to the compensation amount. After which their lands were measured again and a land case was made by the Revenue Department. But till date those remaining farmers have not been given compensation. Farmers have been continuously pleading with the government and administration since the year 2021.

    Illegal road construction

According to the information, 16 meter wide land was required to build roads on these two routes, but at many places the farmers were not satisfied with the compensation amount, due to which the agreement between those farmers and ADB could not be reached. Now ADB officials are building roads against the rules at those places. At many places, preparations are underway to build 12 meter, 10 meter and 8 meter roads. While the estimate for road construction has already been prepared, but now ADB is getting work done beyond the estimate, which is against the rules.

    what do the officials say

In this case, the revenue officer says that consensus has not been reached with some farmers, but in view of the rains, the road will be constructed on the old government road. If consensus is reached with the farmers later, the road will be widened further.
