Jaiswal accomplished this milestone during his side’s second T20I match against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. During a run-chase of a target of 78 runs in a rain-affected game, Jaiswal smacked a quickfire 30 in just 15 balls, with three fours and two sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 200.00.

India is 2-0 up in the series and Bishnoi got the ‘Player of the Match’ award. (With ANI Inputs)

  • Delhi Court To Consider CBI Chargesheet Against Arvind Kejriwal In Excise Policy Case On Aug 12 |

The Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday fixed August 12 for consideration of the supplementary chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other accused persons in connection with the excise policy case.

The Special Judge Kaveri Baweja deferred the matter for submissions by CBI on cognizance of the chargesheet. CBI on Monday filed its final chargesheet in the excise policy case, naming Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party leader Durgesh Pathak, businessman P Sarath Reddy, Vinod Chauhan, Ashish Mathur and Amit Arora, said CBI sources.

On Monday, the Delhi High Court reserved its order on Delhi CM Kejriwal’s regular bail plea in the CBI case related to the excise policy. During the hearing, the Central Bureau of Investigation opposed the bail plea, referring to Kejriwal as the “sutradhar” of the case.

The bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, after noting down the submissions of both sides, reserved the order in the matter. During the arguments, CBI’s Special Counsel, DP Singh, informed the Delhi High Court that as their investigation progressed, they discovered more evidence implicating Arvind Kejriwal. The chargesheet had been filed today, naming six individuals, including Kejriwal, but five of them have not been arrested.

The CBI informed the Delhi High Court that they had completed their investigation and filed a chargesheet within a month. They claimed that Arvind Kejriwal is the central figure or “sutradhar,” in the excise policy scam. The CBI counsel stated that Arvind Kejriwal, as the head of the cabinet, signed the excise policy, circulated it to his colleagues, and received their signatures within a single day. This occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CBI counsel further submitted that C Aravind, an IAS officer under Manish Sisodia, testified that Vijay Nair brought a copy of the excise policy to be entered into the computer, and Arvind Kejriwal was present at that time. This, according to the CBI, indicates Kejriwal’s direct involvement in the matter. CBI counsel DP Singh stated that the investigation agency has traced Rs 44 crores of money related to the case, which was sent to Goa. Arvind Kejriwal instructed his candidates not to worry about the funds and to focus on contesting the elections, said Advocate DP Singh.

CBI counsel DP Singh argued that while direct evidence might be lacking, witness testimonies, including three witnesses and 164 statements made in court, clearly indicate Kejriwal’s involvement. Singh asserted that such evidence emerged only after Kejriwal’s arrest, as Punjab officers would not have come forward otherwise.

CBI counsel DP Singh stated that after the issue blew up in the media, CM Kejriwal sought ex post facto approval from the council of ministers. The CBI stated that while certain circumstances allow the High Court to hear bail applications directly, it cannot be the first court for bail hearings. With the final chargesheet now filed, the CBI is prepared for the trial to commence, said Advocate DP Singh, representing CBI.

However, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Arvind Kejriwal, began his submissions by arguing that the case represents an “insurance arrest.” He stated that Kejriwal has been granted bail three times in the ED case. Singhvi also pointed out that since Kejriwal’s arrest by the CBI, there has been no confrontation or new developments. He argued that the distinction between bail and writ petitions does not impact the case’s merit.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi stated that there is no direct evidence against Arvind Kejriwal. He highlighted that the CBI frequently refers to Vijay Nair as a central figure in the case, but Nair had been granted bail in the CBI case a long time ago. Abhishek Manu Singhvi criticised the CBI’s portrayal of Arvind Kejriwal as the “Sutradhar” of the excise policy, arguing that they fail to acknowledge the broader context. He emphasised that the policy was the result of nine inter-ministerial committees, involving officials from various departments, and was published in July 2021 after a year of deliberation.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued that while Arvind Kejriwal signed the excise policy, so did 15 other people, including the Lieutenant Governor. By the CBI’s logic, the Lieutenant Governor and the 50 bureaucrats, including the Chief Secretary, should also be considered co-accused, said Singhvi. Singhvi also emphasised that he does not wish to implicate the Lieutenant Governor but questioned the CBI’s selective targeting.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi asked the CBI to produce a statement that isn’t based on hearsay, asserting that after two years of investigation, the case relies on presumptions and hypotheses rather than concrete evidence. Earlier today, CBI filed a chargesheet against Arvind Kejriwal and others in the matter.

Recently, the Delhi High Court reserved the order on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the CBI in connection with the excise policy case. The Court also reserved the order on the issue of Kejriwal’s plea for interim bail.

The Delhi Chief Minister had approached the Delhi High Court, stating that the applicant/Kejriwal is the National Convenor of a National Political Party (Aam Aadmi Party) and the sitting Chief Minister of Delhi, who is being subjected to gross persecution and harassment for wholly malafide and extraneous considerations, is knocking at the doors of this Court seeking regular bail in this case.

He has recently been approached to challenge his wholly non-est and illegal arrest as well as patently routine remand orders passed by the Trial Court. The said writ petition had come up for hearing before this Court on July 2, when this Court issued notice and listed the matter for hearing on July 17.

  • Stabbing Rampage At UK Dance Class: 2 Children Dead, 11 Injured At Taylor Swift-Themed Class | world news

LONDON: Bloodied children ran screaming from a dance and yoga class “like a scene from a horror movie” to escape a teenager’s savage knife attack that killed two children and wounded 11 other people Monday in northwest England, police and witnesses said.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in the stabbing in Southport, a seaside town near Liverpool, Merseyside Police said. The motive was not clear, but police said detectives were not treating the attack as terror-related.

Nine children were wounded — six of them in critical condition — in the latest headline-grabbing attack amid a recent rise in knife crime that has stoked anxieties and led to calls for the government to do more to clamp down on bladed weapons.

Two wounded adults who tried to shield the pupils were in critical condition, police said.

“We believe the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked,” Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said.

The Taylor Swift-themed workshop was held on the first week of school vacation for children aged about 6 to 11. The two-hour session was led by two women — a yoga instructor and a dance instructor — according to an online listing.

Witnesses described hearing blood-curdling screams and seeing children covered in blood emerging from the business that hosts everything from pregnancy workshops and meditation sessions to women’s bootcamps.

“They were in the road, running from the nursery,” said Bare Varathan, who owns a shop nearby. “They had been stabbed, here, here, here, everywhere,” indicating the neck, back and chest.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack “horrendous and deeply shocking.” King Charles III sent his “condolences, prayers and deepest sympathies” for those affected by the “utterly horrific incident.”

Police were called shortly before noon to a street where several small businesses are located behind rows of brick houses in the city of about 100,000.

The first officers who arrived were shocked to find so many casualties from the “ferocious attack,” most of them children with serious injuries, Kennedy said.

Colin Parry, an auto body shop owner, said most of the stabbing victims appeared to be young girls.

“The mothers are coming here now and screaming,” Parry said. “It is like a scene from a horror movie. … It’s like something from America, not like sunny Southport.”

The suspect, who has not been identified, lived in a village about 5 miles (8 kilometers) from the site of the attack, police said. He was originally from Cardiff, Wales.

Ryan Carney, who lives with his mother in the street, said his mother saw emergency workers carrying children “covered in red, covered in blood. She said she could see the stab wounds in the backs of the children.”

“All this stuff never really happens around here,” he said. “You hear of it, stabbings and stuff like that in major cities, your Manchesters, your Londons. This is sunny Southport. That’s what people call it. The sun’s out. It’s a lovely place to be.”

Britain’s worst attack on children occurred in 1996, when 43-year-old Thomas Hamilton shot 16 kindergarten pupils and their teacher dead in a school gymnasium in Dunblane, Scotland. The UK subsequently banned the private ownership of almost all handguns.

Mass shootings and killings with firearms are rare in Britain, where knives were used in about 40% of homicides in the year to March 2023.

  • 292 Gram Panchayats are TB free, Government of India gave certificate

Hakeem Nasir, Mahasamund. The campaign being run for TB free India is now visible on the ground. As a result of this campaign, 292 village panchayats of Mahasamund district have become TB free. For this achievement, the Government of India has given the Panchayats the certificate of ‘TB free Panchayat’, while the villagers including the health staff are also happy with this achievement.

Under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program, Mahasamund district had the target of TB elimination by 2025. This target is to be achieved five years before the deadline of 2030 set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Between January 2023 and December 2023, 292 panchayats out of 551 panchayats of the district were selected and 30 people per thousand population were examined in the potential gram panchayats. In this campaign of TB elimination, the health department of the district, panchayat representatives, voluntary organizations and villagers have worked hard together.

100% panchayats will be TB free by the end of the year: CMHO

TB cases were identified and treated through regular checkups, timely treatment and public awareness campaigns, as a result of which 292 gram panchayats of the district have now become TB free. On this success, Chief Medical Officer Dr. P Kudeshiya says that this process will continue and by the end of this year 100% panchayats of the district will become TB free.

Chhattisgarh is at third place in TB free campaign

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken the initiative of TB free panchayat in the World TB Day program organized in Varanasi in March 2023. Under this, these 292 gram panchayats of Mahasamund district have achieved the goals of TB elimination by measuring and verifying the valid indicators. Chhattisgarh state is at number three in India and Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh is at the first place in the TB free campaign.
