  • Hathras Stampede Tragedy: Rahul Gandhi Meets Victims’ Families; Six Arrested | Top Developments |

Hathras Stampede Tragedy: As the tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras claimed 121 lives, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi visited the district early on Friday. The LoP met the families of the victims of the stampede. The incident occurred at an overcrowded religious congregation of the self-styled godman Baba Bhole’s satsang on Tuesday. He visited Aligarh’s Pilkhana village to meet the victims’s families.

Yesterday, the UP police arrested six members of the organising committee which include two women. All victims’ bodies have been identified and returned to their families, said District Magistrate Asish Kumar.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi visited Pilkhana village in Aligarh to meet the families affected by the Hathras stampede incident. The tragic event claimed the lives of four individuals from the village.

Surajpal, also known as Narayan Sakar Hari and Bhole Baba, has not been named in the UP police FIR. However, the police intend to question him if necessary. The probe authorities are currently unaware of his whereabouts. On Thursday, police searched his ashram in Mainpuri but were unable to locate him.

Inspector General of Police (Aligarh Range), Shalabh Mathur, informed reporters on Thursday that all six arrested individuals were ‘sevadars’ (volunteers) at the ‘satsang’. Mathur mentioned that a reward of Rs 1 lakh would soon be announced and a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against the key accused, Devprakash Madhukar.

The police have identified the arrested individuals as Ram Ladaite (50), Upendra Singh Yadav (62), Megh Singh (61), Mukesh Kumar (38), and two women, Manju Yadav (30) and Manju Devi (40).

The initial report indicates that the stampede happened when Bhole Baba departed from the event venue, prompting his devotees to rush and gather the dirt around his feet.

The Hathras administration claimed that 2.5 lakh people attended the event, far exceeding the permissible limit of 80,000.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an inquiry led by a retired Allahabad High Court judge. However, the Congress has called for a judicial investigation to be conducted by a retired judge.

The FIR was filed on July 2 under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint), 223 (disobedience to an order issued by a public servant), and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence).

Bhole Baba resides in his Mainpuri ashram, an expansive estate spanning 21 bighas of land, named Hari Nagar. Six rooms within the estate are reserved exclusively for him and his wife.

Bhole Baba’s lawyer stated that the preacher will cooperate with authorities and claimed that the stampede was caused by a conspiracy orchestrated by anti-social elements.

  • UK Election Results 2024: Keir Starmer Likely To Lead As Exit Polls Show Major Setback For Rishi Sunak | Latest Updates |

UK Elections Results Latest Updates: If the exit poll prediction on Thursday is any right, Britain’s next Prime Minister will be Labour Party’s Keir Starmer. As per the poll forecast cited by Associated Press, voters have punished the governing Conservatives after 14 years of economic and political upheaval as the Labour is projected to secure around 410 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons, while the Conservatives are expected to win 131 seats.

In Britain, voters use paper ballots, marking their choices with a pencil, and the votes are then counted manually. The final results are expected by Friday morning.

Reform UK, a new anti-immigration party, has won its first seat in the general election. Lee Anderson, who used to be a Conservative deputy chairman but switched to Reform a few months ago, kept his seat in Ashfield, central England, with 43% of the vote, reported news agency AP.

The UK’s ruling Conservative Party has lost its first seat in the general election. As per AP, Robert Buckland, a former justice minister, was defeated in Swindon South, central England, with his vote share dropping by 25% compared to the last election in 2019.

According to AP, UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps, a prominent Conservative Party member, has been defeated in the general election. Shapps lost the Welwyn Hatfield seat, located north of London, to his Labour Party opponent Andrew Lewin by nearly 4,000 votes or 8 percentage points. At 55, Shapps is the highest-ranking Cabinet minister to lose his seat so far.

Labour leader Keir Starmer is running from London seat, Holborn and St. Pancras seat.

Labour is expected to win around 410 out of 650 seats in the House of Commons, while the Conservatives are projected to get only 131 seats, according to exit polls. This would be the lowest number of seats the Conservatives have had in almost 200 years, leaving the party in chaos.

Thousands of election workers are counting millions of ballots at centers nationwide, as the Conservatives grapple with a historic defeat that has left the party in turmoil and is expected to trigger a leadership contest to replace Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Polling stations closed at 10 pm local time (2100 GMT) on Thursday, and an exit poll indicated that Keir Starmer’s left-leaning Labour Party is on track to win a large majority.

The UK has 67 million residents, and 46 million were registered to vote in the 2019 general election. The voter turnout at that time was 67%.

The centre-left Labour Party is on track for a significant victory in Britain’s general election, according to a detailed exit poll. This result ends the Conservative Party’s 14-year rule and puts Labour leader Keir Starmer on the path to becoming the next prime minister.

As per reports, Sunak’s decision to leave D-Day commemorative events in France early for a TV interview upset veterans and even prompted criticism from within his own party, questioning his political judgment.

Amritpal Singh, the jailed radical preacher who is being brought to Delhi on parole to take an oath as a member of the Lok Sabha, will be able to see his family but will not be allowed to leave New Delhi’s “territorial jurisdiction.” As per the terms stipulated in his parole order granted by the district magistrate of Amritsar, Punjab, where Singh was arrested on April 23, last year, neither Singh nor his family members are allowed to speak in any media outlet while he is in the nation’s capital.

The Khalistani , who was imprisoned in the Dibrugarh district of Assam and went on to win Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat in the recent parliamentary elections, is scheduled to take an oath this Friday. Singh, 31, will be flown in from Assam to Delhi for taking oath and his parole period of four days starts from July 5, sources said on Wednesday.

The parole order, listing 10 conditions, specifies that the temporary release period includes the travel time from the central jail in Dibrugarh to New Delhi and back. It states that he “shall not enter the territorial jurisdiction of any place other than New Delhi during the period of temporary release.”

“Neither Amritpal Singh nor any of his relatives are allowed to record or disseminate any statement of Amritpal in any electronic form,” the order declares. Additionally, he must “avoid any action or statement that could be detrimental to national security.”

According to the order, “relatives of Amritpal, as defined under Section 2(c) of the Punjab Detenue (Condition of Detention) Order, 1981, are permitted to meet him while he is in New Delhi.” Regarding the deployment of security personnel, the order indicates that Singh will be escorted by a number of police officers considered suitable by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amritsar (Rural).

These officers will accompany him from the moment of his temporary release until he returns to jail to resume his detention. When Singh is within the Parliament precincts, “he will be escorted by police or other security personnel as authorized by the Secretary General, Lok Sabha,” the order notes.

For times when Singh is not required at Parliament, he will be “stayed at a location in New Delhi deemed appropriate by the SSP, Amritsar (Rural), based on security considerations.” The order mentions that the SSP will coordinate with the Lok Sabha secretary general to ensure compliance with the conditions.

Amritsar District Magistrate Ghamshyam Thori while speaking to PTI on Wednesday said, “Amritpal Singh has been granted parole for up to four days or less beginning July 5 with certain conditions that have been communicated to jail superintendent, Dibrugarh.”

Singh, who heads the “Waris Punjab De” outfit and styled himself after slain Khalistani militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, was jailed along with nine of his associates under the National Security Act.

He was arrested in Moga’s Rode village after he and his supporters on February 23 barged into the Ajnala police station breaking barricades, brandishing swords and guns, and clashed with police personnel in an attempt to free one of his aides from custody.

  • Nepal’s Pranab government in minority, ally party withdraws support…

Kathmandu. The coalition government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in Nepal has gone into minority. Nepal’s second largest party Nepal Communist Party-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) which was part of the government has decided to withdraw its support and form a new coalition with its old rival Nepali Congress.

With the withdrawal of support, eight ministers of the CPN-UML resigned en masse from the government on July 3, formally exiting the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led cabinet. The party gave Dahal a 24-hour deadline to resign from the post of prime minister.

Prachanda has shown reluctance to resign from his post, and his party has also decided to face a no-confidence vote within 30 days. Leaders of the party and the country’s largest party, the Nepali Congress, signed an agreement on July 3 to form a new partnership to rule for the remaining three years before general elections.

Prachanda has been leading a shaky coalition since becoming prime minister in December 2022, when his party finished third in an inconclusive election. He began switching coalition partners to maintain his majority. The Maoist leader survived a no-confidence motion in early March when a smaller party broke away from his coalition. If he does not step down immediately, he will need a confidence motion in a month.

Prachanda led a violent Maoist communist insurgency from 1996 to 2006. More than 17,000 people were killed and the status of many others is unknown. After entering politics, Prachanda’s party won the most parliamentary seats in 2008 and he became prime minister, but stepped down a year later due to differences with the president.
