  • Paris Olympics 2024: India gets its first medal, shooter Manu Bhaker waves the tricolor

Paris Olympics 2024: India’s medal account has opened in Paris Olympics 2024. Star shooter Manu Bhaker has created history by winning the bronze medal in 10 meter air pistol. Manu has become the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting.

Let us tell you that Manu made her debut in the last Tokyo Olympics 2020, but her pistol got damaged during the 10 meter air pistol qualification round. Due to this, she could not win a medal last time. Apart from this, she also missed out on winning medals in the mixed team 10 meter pistol and 25 meter pistol events.

Know what Manu said after winning the bronze medal?

After winning the bronze medal in 10m air pistol, Manu said that the whole team has worked really hard. For me personally, it is really unbelievable. I think I did a good job. I tried very hard, and even in the last shot I was fighting with all my energy, and it was bronze, but I am really grateful that I could win bronze for India, maybe I will be able to do better next time.

Talking about what was going through her mind during the last few moments of the bout and the last few shots, Manu said, “Honestly I have read a lot of Gita, so what was going through my mind was just do what you have to do. Just do what you have to do, and leave it to destiny, you cannot control the outcome. So in Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna that you know, you focus on your karma and not the outcome of karma. So that was what was going through my mind. It was like okay, just do your job. Just do your job and let go of everything else.”

Talking about the journey from Tokyo to Paris, Manu said that after Tokyo I was very disappointed and the events that happened for me were not very good. It took me a lot of time to recover from it. However, I came back stronger. So what is now is what matters. Let’s let what is past remain past.

What was going on in her mind after the qualification, and how did she prepare for today’s big day? Answering this, Manu said that as soon as the qualification round was over, I was really waiting for the final. I have worked really hard and I don’t know what will happen to me tomorrow, how difficult it will be tomorrow, because I know all the people, everyone, like, you know, people from India are here, there are so many people here. And I am very happy that so many people came to cheer me, to cheer India, and this medal is for all of us, not just for me. It is always a teamwork, and I am really grateful that I was the medium to win this medal for India.

Manu is also participating in these events

22-year-old Manu Bhaker is participating in the women’s 10m air pistol, 10m air pistol mixed team and women’s 25m pistol events at the Paris 2024 Olympic shooting competition. She is the only athlete in the 21-member Indian shooting team to compete in so many individual events.

  • ACB and EOW got the right to investigate and take action under the Gambling Act, now effective action will be taken quickly in cases of online gambling and betting

Shivam Mishra, Raipur. As per the instructions of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, the state government has taken important steps to strictly ban gambling and betting, especially online gambling, in the state and take swift action against those involved. Under the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act 2022, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the State Economic Offenses Investigation (EOW) have now been given the right to investigate and take action.

After the publication of this notification, ACB and EOW will be able to take quick and effective action in cases of online gambling. Till now ACB and EOW used to investigate only cases of corruption and financial irregularities, but with this step their scope has increased further.

Investigation will be done in the same wing

With ACB and EOW getting the right to investigate and take action under the Gambling Act, these cases will be investigated under the same wing, which will make investigation easier and action faster. This will effectively crack down on gambling and betting in the state.

Online gambling has been included in the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act 2022. Under this, there is a provision of 7 years imprisonment and non-bailable sections if found guilty. The Act makes owning a gambling house, gambling, online gambling, violation of advertising prohibition and crime by the company as cognizable and non-bailable offences.

Online gambling platform term added to definition of gambling house

The new Act adds the term online gambling platform to the definition of gambling house and the term electronic record, device, mobile app, and electronic transfer of funds to the definition of equipment. The old Act did not have any provision for punishment for online gambling, but now separate punishment has been provided, which provides for a maximum of 3 years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh. Repeat offenders can be punished with a maximum of 7 years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh.

This new move will ensure strict monitoring and action on online gambling and betting in the state, thereby minimising its negative impacts on society.

  • Mata Prasad Pandey: Akhilesh Yadav Plays ‘BAP’ Card To Challenge Yogi’s Might After Success Of PDA Formula |

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is leaving no stone unturned to keep the BJP on the tenterhook ahead of the upcoming Assembly bypolls.  While Congress was leading the INDIA bloc, Yadav stuck to his PDA ideology – Pichhda, Dalits and Alpsankhyak (Backwards, Dalits, and Minorities) and led his party to a stunning victory against the BJP in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. After the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP scrambled to put together the missing pieces aiming to stage a comeback in the upcoming assembly bypolls for 10 seats.

After acing the PDA formula, Akhilesh Yadav has played another social engineering masterstroke aiming to lure the Brahmin voters who have been voting for the BJP and have played a crucial role in making Yogi Adityanath the Chief Minister for the second time. Uttar Pradesh has 12% Brahmins who mostly vote for the BJP. However, Akhilesh Yadav is well aware that the majority mark in the 2027 assembly polls cannot be acquired without the support from the upper castes including the Brahmins. Thus, Yadav played the ‘BAP’ – ‘Brahmin, Alpsankhyak and Pichhda’ – card which will echo in the Uttar Pradesh assembly challenging Yogi Adityanath’s might for the next three years until the 2027 assembly elections.

Akhilesh Yadav appointed seasoned politician Mata Prasad Pandey as the Leader of the Opposition, thus indicating that his party is not averse to Brahmins. This shows that the Samajwadi Party is now focusing on caste equations to win the polls rather than focusing on the Yadavs and Muslims alone. This was evident in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls where the Samajwadi Party fielded only four Muslims and five Yadavs of the 62 Lok Sabha seats it contested.

The SP also appointed Kamaal Akhtar as the chief whip and Rakesh Kumar alias R K Verma as the deputy whip in the assembly. By making these appointments, Akhilesh Yadav played the ‘Brahmin, Alpsankhyak and Pichhda’ (BAP) card, thus sending a signal to the 12% vote bank that they are being keenly watched by the Samajwadi Party.

    Who Is Mata Prasad Pandey?

Mata Prasad Pandey is a seven-time MLA of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Pandey, 82, replaces SP president Akhilesh Yadav, who resigned as MLA from Karhal seat in Mainpuri district after he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj. Pandey, a Brahmin leader, has held the post of Uttar Pradesh Assembly speaker twice — 2004-2007 and 2012-2017. He was first elected as MLA in 1980 and then in 1985 and 1989. He served as state health minister between 1990 and 1991 in the then-chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s government. He was the labour and employment minister in Mulayam Singh Yadav’s government between 2002 and 2004.

  • Paris Olympics 2024: Manu Bhaker Shines In Qualifier As India’s Hope For Olympic Gold In Shooting | Other

Paris Olympics 2024: Sports can often be unforgiving, with very slim margins separating success from failure. After a challenging Tokyo Olympics, where a pistol malfunction led to a heartbreaking result, Manu Bhaker redeemed herself with an impressive performance at the Paris Olympics. The 22-year-old from Jhajjar made history by becoming the first female shooter from India to advance to the final of an individual shooting event at the Olympics. With her confident display, Bhaker now has the opportunity to become the first Indian shooter to win a gold medal if she secures the top spot in Sunday’s final.

In the qualifications for the women’s 10m air pistol event, Bhaker shot a score of 580, placing her third overall. Hungarian shooter Veronika Major led the field with a score of 582. Fellow Indian competitor Rhythm Sangwan finished in 15th place with a score of 573, which was disappointing compared to Bhaker’s performance. (Paris Olympics 2024: Know All About Shooter Manu Bhaker Who Won India’s First Medal In France)

Bhaker demonstrated exceptional control throughout the qualification round, which lasted one hour and fifteen minutes. Her challenge now is to maintain that composure during the high-pressure final at the National Shooting Centre. India has not won an Olympic medal in shooting since 2012, and Bhaker is in a strong position to break that drought.

Reflecting on her Tokyo Games setback, Bhaker described it as one of the most painful experiences of her career, admitting that she almost gave up the sport. However, her resilience and ability to bounce back from adversity are what define a champion. Her personal coach, Jaspal Rana, who was emotional after the qualification round, emphasized that the competition is far from over. He advised Bhaker to stay hydrated, especially given the challenging heat conditions in the range.

Meanwhile, 2016 Olympic champion Anna Korakaki, who competed alongside Bhaker, struggled with illness and had to withdraw from the session. Despite the tough day for Indian shooters overall, Bhaker’s stellar performance, including 27 inner 10s—the most in the qualification round—provides a glimmer of hope. Her initial series of seven 10s and three 9s set the tone for her qualification, ensuring her place in the final despite a slip in her performance in the later series.

The day was less successful for other Indian shooters, who did not advance to the finals in the men’s 10m air pistol and 10m air rifle mixed team events, making Bhaker’s achievement all the more significant.

  • Rau IAS Study Centre Mishap: How Delhi Coaching Violated Safety Norms |

NEW DELHI: A day after the tragic incident in the coaching centre of Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar, where the flooding of the basement resulted in the death of at least three UPSC aspirants, it has emerged that the institute flouted the key guidelines and norms, as outlined by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The basement, which was cleared for usage as a parking space or for storage of household goods, was turned into a library.

The Rau’s IAS Study Centre got this Completion/Occupancy certificate from the North Delhi Municipal Corporation in August 2021. The certificate, a copy of which is with the IANS, shows that guidelines were clearly laid out for the three-storey building. Ground to the Second floor was allocated for office use while the Stilt (Ground) and basement were earmarked for car parking and household storage.

The coaching centre, in a blatant violation of norms, converted the basement into a library, thereby putting the lives of students at risk.
This happened despite knowing the fact that the area was prone to waterlogging. Kishore, a student of the coaching institute, also told IANS that he got a complaint lodged against the IAS coaching centre for illegally running a library from the basement.

He said that the institute didn’t have NOC from fire and other concerned departments and this could lead to mishappening on any given day. As heavy rains lashed the capital on Saturday, the area turned into a sinkhole because of waterlogging and flooding in the locality. According to students, the library had a biometric system inside the library. Without finger verification, no student could either enter or exit the area. As the drainage water started to fill in the basement-turned-library, the biometric system malfunctioned and went off. The trapped students couldn’t come outside due to the breakdown of the power supply.

It was only after the uproar by students, after a long gap, that the suction pumps were brought in and started lifting water out of the basement. Three civil service aspirants who died in the tragic mishap were identified as Tania Soni, Shreya Yadav (both 25 years old) and Navin Delvin (28).

Meanwhile, Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi has ordered a probe into the tragic demise of students and also called for a clampdown on all basements running illegal study centres.

  • Harris Campaign Says It Raised Record USD 200 Million In Less Than A Week | world news

Washington: Kamala Harris’ campaign on Sunday announced that it has raised an unprecedented USD 200 million in less than a week after she entered the race for the White House, reflecting the groundswell of support in her favor.

The campaign also acknowledged that the November 5 election will be very close and decided by a small number of voters in just a few states.

Vice President Harris, 59, is now the presumptive presidential nominee of the Democratic party after incumbent President Joe Biden on July 20 announced that he was withdrawing from the race.

“Team Harris has raised USD 200 million since President Biden’s endorsement last Sunday — a record-shattering haul. Of that amount, 66 percent came from first-time donors, further proof of the tremendous grassroots support for the Vice President,” said Harris for President Communications Director Michael Tyler.

Vice President Harris has been a candidate for less than a week, but she’s already coalesced the entire Democratic Party around her campaign and the organic, grassroots enthusiasm is producing results.

From record-breaking fundraising to unprecedented crowds and volunteers pouring into field offices across the battlegrounds, Team Harris is fired up to elect the Vice President and defeat the extremist Donald Trump-J D Vance ticket, he said.

At the same time, Tyler warned of a closed race.

“The momentum and energy for Vice President Harris is real – and so are the fundamentals of this race: this election will be very close and decided by a small number of voters in just a few states. That’s why our campaign is harnessing the energy across the country for a weekend of action to mark 100 days out from the election (today!),” Tyler said in a memorandum on Sunday morning.

Tyler said that the enthusiasm for Harris’ candidacy is uniting and growing the winning coalition — with endorsements from young voters, voters of color, labor, Barack and Michelle Obama, and countless more leaders and advocates.

The party is so united behind Vice President Harris’ candidacy that she earned enough delegates to become the presumptive nominee barely 24 hours after announcing her campaign. Just this weekend, dozens of surrogates are joining Team Harris on the campaign trail, he asserted.

“Since last Sunday, we’ve seen unprecedented grassroots support for the campaign across the country, with over 170,000 new volunteers joining Team Harris. We are not taking that excitement for granted – just this weekend, the campaign will mobilize thousands of grassroots supporters with more than 2,300 events in battleground states. We are also engaging supporters online and through traditional media, with the VP herself joining TikTok and gaining millions of followers since,” he said.

Harris will be formally announced presidential nominee in next month’s Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago.

Tyler said this week, hundreds of thousands of supporters came together via calls to support the Vice President, raising millions in the process — including shows of support from coalitions of Black women and men, Latinas, white women, the LGBTQ community, and more. .

Meanwhile, Trump, her Republican rival, is scrambling, Tyler said, adding that he’s scared to debate Harris.

“While the Harris coalition is unified and growing, Donald Trump is weighed down by his extensive vulnerabilities, for example, his Friday comments about ending elections in this country,” he said.
