  • The Centre responded to Mamta Banerjee’s letter with data.

The Union Minister for Women and Child Development has responded to the second letter of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. In this, strict laws and punishment have been demanded for heinous crimes like rape and murder.

In her second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mamata Banerjee has demanded strict central laws and harsh punishment for heinous crimes like rape and murder. Both these letters have come amid the CBI investigation into the rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The BJP had called Mamata a liar over her letters and questioned why she did not do anything to ensure the implementation of the existing stringent rules and laws for the safety of women in her state.

In her reply to Mamata Banerjee, Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi said, “Regarding the information given in your letter about the status of Fast Track Special Courts (FTSC) and Special POCSO Courts in West Bengal, I would like to mention that as per the information received from the Calcutta High Court, West Bengal has established 88 Fast Track Courts (FTC). These are not the same as the Fast Track Special Courts (FTSC) under the Central Government scheme.”

He further wrote, “Despite 48,600 rape and POCSO cases pending in West Bengal, the state has not made the additional 11 FTSCs operational. These can be special POCSO courts as per the requirement of the state or combined FTSCs dealing with both rape and POCSO cases. As can be seen, the information contained in your letter in this regard is factually incorrect and appears to be a step towards covering up the delay in making the FTSCs operational by the state.”

BJP co-in-charge of West Bengal Amit Malviya has also questioned the Bengal Chief Minister for not taking adequate steps to ensure strict compliance of rules and laws for the safety of women and girls.

The rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked outrage across the country. Doctors and others in the medical profession have demanded fundamental reforms to ensure respect and safety at their workplace.

  • TRAI Extends Deadline For Move Aimed At Curbing Misuse Of Messaging Services |

New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Friday granted a one-month extension to access service providers to comply with its direction regarding the whitelisting of URLs, APKs and OTT links. TRAI had earlier asked major telecom operators in the country to regulate messages containing URLs, OTT link, APK files and phone numbers unless they are whitelisted by September 1.

The move is aimed at curbing the number of spam and phishing attempts by scammers who try to dupe people using SMS service. The telecom regulator has now directed all access providers to furnish to the authority an updated status on action taken within 15 days and a compliance report within 30 days from date of issue of this direction.

The revised direction mandates that all access providers ensure that traffic containing URLs/APKs/OTT links, which are not whitelisted, is not permitted with effect from October 1. “This step aims to curb the misuse of Headers and Content Templates, ensuring a more secure and efficient telecom ecosystem. Further, in consideration of the issues brought out by Access Providers, the revised timeline for implementing call back numbers will be fixed separately,” said TRAI.

On August 20, the Centre mandated access service providers to take concrete measures to curb misuse of messaging services, effective from September 1. All access service providers were to be prohibited from transmitting messages containing URLs, APKs, OTT links, or call back numbers which are not whitelisted by the senders.

To deter the misuse of templates for promotional content, TRAI has introduced punitive measures for non-compliance. “Content templates registered under the wrong category will be blacklisted, and repeated offenses will lead to a one-month suspension of the sender’s services,” said the government. The telecom regulator said that the revocation of traffic from the sender shall be done only after legal action is taken by the sender against such misuse.

  • Vinesh Phogat Visits Golden Temple, Prays To Waheguru To Give Her ‘Strength’ Other

Vinesh Phogat paid obeisance at the Golden Temple on Friday and prayed to Waheguru to give her strength. After offering prayers at the Golden Temple, Vinesh said while speaking to reporters, “I am feeling very good after coming here. I am feeling a positive energy. I prayed to Waheguru to give me strength.”

It has been a topsy-turvy month for Vinesh after she reached the final of the women’s 50kg event but still returned to India empty-handed. On August 7, Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of the United States stood between Vinesh and the gold medal.

However, things went downhill after she was disqualified before the final after breaching the 50kg weight limit. A day after her heartbreaking disqualification, Vinesh announced her decision to retire from wrestling. She also made a plea to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to award her a joint silver medal.

The CAS deferred the verdict a couple of times and eventually dismissed the application filed by Vinesh for a silver medal in the women’s 50kg event at the Paris Olympics. Despite not receiving a medal for her efforts and landmark wins at the Olympics, an excited crowd of thousands welcomed the wrestler like they would have welcomed with a medal around her neck on August 17.

People thronged in thousands to get a glimpse of one of the country’s most celebrated athletes of recent times, waiting to exchange a few words and get a selfie with her. She was welcomed with garlands and flowers in her hometown, Bhiwani. Since announcing her retirement, Vinesh has also hinted towards a possible change in heart and reversing her decision.

In a statement that she posted on her social media account, Vinesh said, “Maybe under different circumstances, I could see myself playing till 2032 because the fight in me and wrestling in me will always be there.”

  • Last date extended for admission in schools and colleges of the state, Education Department issued order

Raipur. Chhattisgarh Education Department has extended the last date for admission in all educational institutions of the state for the academic session 2024-2025. This is a great opportunity for students who have not yet taken admission in school or college to take admission.

Let us tell you, earlier in this academic session, the last date for taking admission in schools and colleges or universities was extended till 16 August. But keeping in mind the interest of the students in case of vacant seats in educational institutions, the state government has once again extended the date for taking admission.

In fact, a large number of seats are still vacant in many schools and colleges. At the same time, many students have not been able to take admission in any educational institution due to the results of the tenth and twelfth board examinations not being declared. Keeping these things in mind, the government has extended the admission date.

  • ‘Mamata Banerjee Is A Liar’, BJP Demands Explanation For Failing To Protect Women In West Bengal |

Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: In a heated exchange over women’s safety, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday called West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee a ‘liar’ and demanded she puts forward an explanation for her government’s failure to enforce stringent protections for women. This sharp rebuke comes after Banerjee’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which she advocated for tougher central laws and faster judicial proceedings for heinous crimes like rape and murder. Amit Malviya, BJP’s co-incharge for West Bengal, accused Banerjee of not only neglecting existing legal frameworks but also failing to establish fast-track courts to address these serious issues.

7 rapes (mostly minors) and in some cases murders too, reported from Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengal in last 48 hours….

But in last 48 hours, Mamata Banerjee has been engaged in every deplorable act, that a civilised Chief Minister would be ashamed of – from issuing open letters… pic.twitter.com/009JvQx3ld

    — Amit Malviya (@amitmalviya) August 30, 2024

Recently, Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reiterating her request for stringent central legislation and exemplary punishment on heinous crimes like rape and murder. She also sought mandatory provision for time-bound disposal of cases of rape/rape and murder. “It is incumbent on Mamata Banerjee to explain why the West Bengal government hasn’t done anything for implementing the stringent rules and regulations, which exist for protecting women and girls,” BJP co-incharge for West Bengal Amit Malviya said in a post on X.

    Mamata Banerjee is a LIAR.

Smt Annapurna Devi, Union Minister of Women and Child Development, responded to West Bengal Chief Minister on 25th Aug 2024.

In her letter, in point 4, she specifically mentions West Bengal Govt NOT setting up even a single Fast Track Court for… https://t.co/mtNgQNLlnx pic.twitter.com/bu2Tf9Ptm2
    — Amit Malviya (@amitmalviya) August 30, 2024

“Stop writing letters. Answer the questions. You are accountable,” he added. In her letter, Banerjee said that she was yet to receive a reply from the prime minister on the issue that she had flagged in her previous letter to him. The chief minister, however, said that she received a communication from the Union Women and Child Development (WCD) minister Annapurna Devi.

Maintaining that the letter by the WCD minister “barely attends the gravity of the issue” raised by her, Banerjee wrote, “The seriousness of the subject and its relevance to the society have not been adequately appreciated while sending out this generic reply.”

Banerjee, in her letter to the PM, mentioned that 88 fast-track special courts and 62 POCSO-designated courts are already functioning in West Bengal on state funding. Reacting sharply, Malviya said, “Mamata Banerjee is a Liar”.

“Annapurna Devi, Union Minister of Women and Child Development, responded to West Bengal Chief Minister on August 25, 2024. In her letter, in point 4, she (the WCD minister) specifically mentions West Bengal government not setting up even a single fast track court for addressing rape and POCSO related cases,” the BJP leader said. He also posted on X a copy of the WCD minister’s letter to the West Bengal chief minister. Malviya said that as many as seven cases of rape, mostly of minors, and in some cases murders too have been reported in West Bengal in the last 48 hours.

“But in the last 48 hours, Mamata Banerjee has been engaged in every deplorable act – that a civilised chief minister would be ashamed of – from issuing open letters to clarifications, from threatening and abusing doctors to inciting nationwide arson,” he said in another post on X.

He called Banerjee a “failed Home and Health Minister” of the state and alleged that she is preoccupied with suppressing evidences of her corruption and incompetence in the RG Kar Hospital rape-and-murder case.

“But, enough is enough. The awakened conscience of Bengal now calls for accountability,” the BJP leader added.

  • Devastating Floods In Bangladesh Claim 54 Lives, Over Two Million Children At Risk | world news

Bangladesh is facing one of the worst floods in decades, with 54 people confirmed dead as of Friday, according to official sources. The disaster has primarily affected 11 districts in the eastern part of the country, leaving over five million people in dire conditions.

    Death Toll And Affected Regions

The highest number of fatalities, 19, were reported from the Feni district, based on data provided by the disaster management ministry. The deceased included six women and seven children. The unprecedented flooding, triggered by heavy rains and overflowing rivers, has devastated 64 sub-districts, leaving more than a million families homeless.

The hardest-hit districts include Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, and Habiganj. Authorities have noted that the situation in some areas, particularly Sylhet, Habiganj, and Chattogram, is beginning to show signs of improvement.

UNICEF’s Warning: Children At Severe Risk

UNICEF has issued a stark warning, stating that more than two million children are in grave danger as the floods have swept through homes, schools, and entire villages. “These floods, the worst in eastern Bangladesh in 34 years, have affected 5.6 million people,” UNICEF highlighted in a statement.

The organization emphasized that millions of children and their families are stranded without access to food or essential supplies. Rescue operations are being carried out by government personnel and volunteers, but difficult conditions in some areas are hindering efforts.

“The devastating floods in eastern Bangladesh are a tragic reminder of the relentless impact of extreme weather events and the climate crisis on children,” said Emma Brigham, UNICEF Bangladesh’s deputy representative. She further noted that many children have lost their homes, schools, and loved ones, leaving them in a state of complete destitution.

    Emergency Response and Funding Needs

In response to the crisis, UNICEF is distributing water purification tablets, oral rehydration salts, and other critical supplies. However, the organization has called for urgent funding, estimating that $35.3 million is required to support life-saving interventions for children and pregnant and lactating women.

    Government and Community Response

Bangladesh’s interim government is facing significant challenges in managing the disaster, particularly in light of ongoing political instability and law and order issues. Over 600 people have died in recent protests and violence connected to the ousting of the previous government.

Despite these challenges, various government forces, including the Bangladesh Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Border Guards, along with NGOs and community organizations, are actively engaged in relief efforts. The interim government has also launched a nationwide fund collection drive to support flood victims.

Contributions have poured in from multiple sectors, including a donation of one day’s salary from all personnel of the Bangladesh Army. People from all walks of life are stepping up to assist those affected by the floods.

  • ‘Masakhman Tapasya’ felicitation ceremony: Munishri Sudhakar said- Tapasya makes life pure and golden

Nitin Namdev, Raipur. As part of the Gatiman Chaturmasik stay, a felicitation ceremony of the fifth “Masakhman Tapasya” was organized in Shrilal Ganga Patwa Bhawan Tagore Nagar on August 30 in the presence of Munishri Sudhakar and Munishri Naresh Kumar, disciples of Acharya Mahashraman. It is special that for the first time in the Raipur Jain Terapanth community, with the special inspiration of Munishri, five Masakhman Tapasyas, that is, the penance in the form of abstaining from any kind of food for a month, were completed happily. On this occasion, Munishri Sudhakar said that penance tortures and makes the life golden.

Today, on the occasion of the 144th Nirvana Divas of Acharya Shri Jayacharya of Terapanth Dharma Sangh, Munishri Sudhakar said that great men incarnate on earth only occasionally. Acharya Jayacharya was blessed with such special talent. Probably, on the strength of his meditation, he had divine powers, the miracle of which is seen occasionally. He has done a special favour on the Terapanth Dharma Sangh. Munishri further said that he was not a man but a great man, not a human but a great man, that is, he was like a god because the then king of Jaipur used to come to see him in disguise at midnight.

Munishri, while approving the penance of ascetic Kamal Lalavani present there by narrating his 36 years of penance, praised him a lot and called upon the present Shravaks and Shravikaas to take inspiration from him.

Munishri Naresh Kumar sang a melodious song

All the federations of Terapanthi Dharma Sangh along with the family members present also approved the penance of the ascetic. It was conducted by Manish Nahar. Other ascetics Mamta Chopra-58, Mukta Chhajed-6, Manak Chopra and Nirmala Bhandari were present with the acknowledgment of their Siddhi penance.
