  • PM Modi’s US Visit: India Signs Three Key IPEF Agreements Ahead Of Quad Summit | world news

India has signed three Key agreements under the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Delaware, USA. These agreements, focusing on the pillars of Clean Economy, Fair Economy, and an overarching IPEF administrative framework, were finalized on Saturday in the presence of the Prime Minister, who is on a three-day trip to the US for the Quad Summit, according to a statement from the Commerce Ministry.

    IPEF Framework

Launched on May 23, 2022, in Tokyo, the IPEF is an initiative aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and engagement among its 14 member countries. The framework is structured around four key pillars: Trade (Pillar I), Supply Chain Resilience (Pillar II), Clean Economy (Pillar III), and Fair Economy (Pillar IV). India’s recent signing builds upon its earlier ratification of the Supply Chain Resilience agreement (Pillar II) in February 2024. With this, India remains an observer in Pillar I but is now fully engaged in the Clean and Fair Economy agreements.

    Clean Economy Agreement

According to the Commerce Ministry, the Clean Economy agreement, a major component of India’s IPEF commitments, seeks to foster technical cooperation, capacity building, workforce development, and research collaborations. The goal is to accelerate clean energy transitions, enhance climate resilience, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions among IPEF partners. This agreement also facilitates investments and project financing, including concessional financing for joint collaborative projects, particularly targeting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The agreement will help integrate Indian companies into global value chains, especially in the Indo-Pacific region. Activities under this framework will include Cooperative Work Programmes, an IPEF Catalytic Capital Fund, and the IPEF Accelerator to catalyze clean energy investments.

    Fair Economy Agreement

India also signed the Fair Economy agreement, which aims to create a more transparent and predictable trade and investment environment across the Indo-Pacific. The agreement promotes collaboration to combat corruption, enhance tax transparency, and improve tax administration across member states.

This pact focuses on strengthening cross-border investigations, facilitating asset recovery, and sharing information to fight bribery, money laundering, and terror financing. The Commerce Ministry highlighted that the agreement supports India’s ongoing efforts in these areas, including domestic resource mobilization. The agreement also emphasizes the importance of technical assistance and capacity building (TACB) initiatives to bolster anti-corruption measures and improve tax systems.

    Overarching IPEF Agreement

An additional overarching agreement was signed to establish a high-level political oversight mechanism at the ministerial level. This agreement aims to ensure the effective implementation of various IPEF commitments by providing general guidance and establishing forums for ongoing ministerial discussions on emerging issues. The agreement is expected to help India enhance its productive capacity, integrate further into global supply chains, and encourage innovation, aligning with the country’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

Furthermore, the inaugural IPEF Investor Forum, held in Singapore in June 2024, identified priority infrastructure projects worth USD 23 billion, with India accounting for USD 4 billion of potential investments in renewable energy companies. Additionally, the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) committed USD 1.5 billion to support India’s energy transition, climate investments, and digital inclusion efforts.

  • Tirupati Laddoo Row: YSRCP’s Jagan Reddy Calls Naidu ‘Pathological Liar’, Seeks PM Modi’s Intervention |

Tirupati Laddoo Row: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention in the controversy pertaining to animal fat allegedly being found in Tirupati temple laddoos. He said that attempts are being made by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to irreparably tarnish the sanctity, integrity, and reputation of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

In an eight page letter addressed to PM Modi, Reddy dubbed the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister as a “habitual liar” and alleged that CM Naidu has stooped so low as to hurt the beliefs of crores of people purely for political objectives.

“Attempts are being made by the Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, to irreparably tarnish the sanctity, integrity, and reputation of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Lord Venkateshwara has crores of Hindu devotees not just in India but across the globe, and if the delicate situation is not handled carefully, these lies could precipitate a widespread agony, having far-reaching consequences on various fronts,” the letter read.

Reddy also said that Naidu be reprimanded in the severest way and the truth be brought to light. “Chandrababu Naidu, a pathological and habitual liar, has stooped so low as to seriously hurt the beliefs of crores of people purely for political objectives… It is imperative that Mr. Naidu be reprimanded in the severest way for his shameless act of spreading lies and the truth be brought to light. This would allay the suspicions that Mr. Naidu has created in the minds of crores of Hindu devotees and restore the faith in the sanctity of the TTD,” Reddy’s letter read.

The letter came days after the controversy pertaining to the Tirupati temple laddoos erupted after Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu claimed that the previous YSRCP government did not even spare Sri Venkateswara temple and used substandard ingredients and animal fat for making laddus.

Later, TTD Executive Officer J. Shyamala Rao, in a press conference, said lab tests had revealed the presence of animal fat and lard in chosen samples, and the board is in the process of blacklisting the contractor who supplied “adulterated” ghee.

Detailing the process undertaken at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the custodian of the super-rich shrine of Sri Venkateswara Swamy, for accepting ghee, in an eight page letter, Jagan alleged that Naidu’s actions lowered not only the stature of CM but also that of everyone in public life, the sanctity of TTD and its practices.

“Sir, the entire country looks to you at this crucial juncture. It is very imperative that Mr Naidu be reprimanded in the severest way for his shameless act of spreading lies and the truth be brought to light. Sir, this would help allay the suspicions that Mr Naidu has created in the minds of crores of Hindu devotees and restore their faith in sanctity of TTD,” Reddy wrote in his letter.

Explaining the sequence of events, he said it is crucial to note that the ghee allegedly adulterated was rejected and not allowed to enter the premises of TTD. However, Naidu, with malafide intention, raised the issue at a political party meeting on September 18.

In the letter, the former Andhra Pradesh CM also claimed that the new government has failed on all fronts with respect to the fulfillment of the commitments made to the voters prior to the elections, and CM Naidu is spreading lies to divert attention from his failures.

“The new Government has failed on all fronts with respect to the fulfillment of the commitments made to the electorate prior to the elections. The new Government could not even pass the general budget for the current financial year fearing that the appropriations to be made would expose Mr. Naidu’s insincerity towards his election promises and would result in backlash from the people of the State. The people of the State lost trust on the abilities of Mr. Naidu. Mindful of this and for purposes of diverting the people’s attention from his failures, Mr. Naidu had spread blatant lies against the practices of the TTD.”

IND vs BAN: India secured a commanding win in the first Test against Bangladesh, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja once again proved their worth with the bat and ball, leading India to a dominant performance that outclassed the visitors in all departments.

Ashwin Jadeja Rescue Act: India Posts 376 Despite Early Collapse

Inserted to bat on a seam-friendly deck, India found themselves in a precarious position at 144/6. Ravichandran Ashwin then walked in and transformed the innings with a positive approach. He scored his sixth Test century and partnered with Ravindra Jadeja in a crucial 199-run stand that shifted the momentum back in India’s favour. Ashwin’s fluent 100-plus innings and Jadeja’s steady contribution helped India post a formidable total of 376.

Bangladesh’s Batting Falters: India Dominates with the Ball

In reply, Bangladesh’s innings crumbled under pressure, getting bowled out for just 149 in under two sessions. The only highlight of their batting was a fifty-run stand between Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das. Ashwin’s clever variations and Jadeja’s relentless accuracy ensured Bangladesh never found any rhythm.

India Sets Mammoth Target: Pant and Gill Shine with Centuries

Choosing not to enforce the follow-on, India batted again with intent. Centuries from Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill powered India to declare their second innings at 287/4, setting Bangladesh an improbable target of over 500 runs. Pant, continuing his sublime form, scored a spectacular 109, while Gill’s unbeaten 119 further compounded Bangladesh’s woes.

Final Day Collapse: Spin Duo Rips Through Bangladesh

Bangladesh started their chase positively, with their openers putting together a fifty-run partnership. However, four late wickets on the previous day left them reeling at the start of the final day. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan showed resilience in the first hour, but the spin web cast by Ashwin and Jadeja proved too much.

After the drinks break, Ashwin, the local favourite, broke the partnership, triggering a collapse. Bangladesh lost their last five wickets for just 29 runs, collapsing from 205/5 to 234 all out. Shanto top-scored with a gritty 82 but lacked support from the other end. Jadeja took three wickets, while Ashwin capped off a sensational match with a six-wicket haul to add to his century.

India’s all-round performance outclassed Bangladesh, as the hosts dominated with both bat and ball. Ashwin and Jadeja’s contributions were pivotal in both innings, showcasing their value to the team.
