    New Delhi: As the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s casual visit to Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud’s residence on Ganesh Puja, faced a significant backlash from the opposition, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has responded by reminding Congress of a similar incident concerning former PM Manmohan Singh.  

    BJP’s spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala shared some old pictures of Manmohan Singh with the then CJI KG Balakrishnan laughing at an Iftar party in 2009. 

    Poonawalla circulated old photographs of the 2009 Iftar party showing then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh together with then Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan. Poonawalla remarked that during that period, the Opposition believed the “judiciary was safe.” He compared this with the current situation, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at Ganesh Puja at the Chief Justice’s residence has led to claims that the “judiciary has been compromised.”

    ‘Should they be enemies?…’ said BJP’s Sambit Patra on Opposition’s remarks. He said that this is the beauty of democracy that the different ‘pillars’ maintain different courtesy’s when on-duty and when off-duty.

    In his petition, Syed argued that the purpose of demolishing the house is to punish the entire family for the criminal charges leveled against one member of the family. During Thursday’s hearing, the Supreme Court said, “Alleged involvement in a crime is not a basis for demolishing the property. In a country where the functions of the state are governed by the rule of law, it is not right to punish the entire family for the crime committed by one member of the house and demolish a legitimate house. After hearing all the arguments, the bench has stayed the bulldozer action and sought an explanation from the concerned authorities within a month. The Supreme Court ordered that in the meantime, status quo should be maintained by all the concerned parties regarding the petitioner’s property.

    Raipur. Finance Minister OP Choudhary has written a letter to the ministers of various departments under the budget of the year 2024-25. The Finance Minister has written this letter on the low expenditure of the budget amount in the departments of five ministers. Finance Minister Choudhary has urged the ministers to increase the pace of expenditure. He has said that the budget is not being spent in the proportion in which it should have been spent.

    Finance Minister Chaudhary has clarified in a letter to the ministers that targets have been set for capital expenditure for each quarter as per the prescribed criteria of the budget and capital expenditure as per this gives impetus to the economy along with continuity in work. The Finance Minister has requested that the fulfillment of budget targets can be ensured by preparing an action plan and through regular supervision. This will help in achieving the targets on time and will have a positive impact towards overall development.

    Finance Minister Chaudhary has written a letter to Home Minister Vijay Sharma and said that in the budget of the year 2024-25, as against the provisions made for capital expenditure in the budget related to your department, till the month of August, much less expenditure has been made as compared to last year. Capital expenditure of Rs 171 crore has been made in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department and Rs 31 crore in the Home Department. As per the expenditure limit fixed for the departments by the Finance Department, 40 percent (25 percent in the first quarter and 15 percent in the second quarter) is to be spent in the first six months. It is necessary to have continuous expenditure and regular supervision in the works approved under the capital expenditure schemes in the department. Higher capital expenditure has a qualitative effect on the creation of jobs and accelerating the economy.

    He has written in the letter that timely payment to construction companies / contractors for construction works under capital expenditure ensures completion of works within the stipulated time period. This also improves the quality of works and also reduces the tender rates of works in future. It is necessary to have continuous expenditure and regular supervision in the works approved under the capital expenditure schemes in the department. Higher capital expenditure has a qualitative effect on the creation of jobs and accelerating the economy.

    At the same time, Finance Minister Chaudhary has written a letter to Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap and said that in the budget of the year 2024-25, as against the provisions made for capital expenditure in the budget related to your department, till the month of August, much less expenditure has been made as compared to last year. Capital expenditure of Rs 655 crore has been made in the Water Resources Department and Rs 80 lakh in the Forest and Climate Change Department. As per the expenditure limit fixed for the departments by the Finance Department, 40 percent (25 percent in the first quarter and 15 percent in the second quarter) is to be spent in the first six months. It is necessary to have continuous expenditure and regular supervision in the works approved under the capital expenditure schemes in the department.

Capital expenditure has been made of Rs 1320 crore in the Public Works Department, Rs 220 crore in the Public Health Engineering Department, Rs 348 crore in the Urban Administration Department and Rs 2.29 crore in the Law and Legislative Affairs Department.     A setback for India C, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad retired hurt after facing just two balls in their Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India B at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

    Gaikwad, who managed to hit a four on the first ball he faced, twisted his ankle on the next delivery and was forced to leave the field. India B won the toss and opted to bowl first, putting India C on the back foot early. Despite the early blow of losing their captain, India C managed to recover with a solid partnership between Sai Sudharsan and Rajat Patidar.     Sudharsan scored 43 runs off 75 balls, while Patidar contributed 40 runs from 67 balls. The duo shared a crucial 92-run stand for the second wicket, facing 140 balls in total. After their promising partnership, both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession, leaving Ishan Kishan and Baba Indrajith to rebuild the innings.

    Reports said that Gaikwad twisted his ankle while running after facing a delivery from pacer Mukesh Kumar. Although he had to retire hurt, the injury is not considered serious, and he is expected to bat in the second innings. Gaikwad has had a challenging period in his red-ball cricket career recently.

    The 27-year-old was named in India’s Test squad for the two-match series against South Africa last December but was ruled out due to a finger injury. In his first-class career, Gaikwad has played 30 games, amassing 2,092 runs with six centuries and ten fifties. His first-class, List A, and T20 debuts came during the 2016–17 season for Maharashtra.
