Women’s T20 WC 2024: New Zealand cricket had a historic day on Sunday, with both the men’s and women’s teams achieving significant victories. In the morning, the men’s team claimed their first Test win in India in 36 years, defeating India by eight wickets in the first Test of a three-match series at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Later in the evening, the White Ferns made history by clinching their first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup title with a thrilling 32-run victory over South Africa.

The New Zealand women’s team celebrated their maiden T20 World Cup triumph, and the joy was evident across the squad. South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and elected to field, but New Zealand’s batsmen delivered crucial contributions. Amelia Kerr’s 43 and Suzie Bates’ 32 helped the White Ferns post 158/5 in their 20 overs, with Brooke Halliday adding a vital 38. In reply, South Africa struggled against a strong bowling attack led by Kerr, who took three wickets, restricting the Proteas to 126/9.

Captain Sophie Devine reflected on the emotional victory, expressing how much it meant to her and the team. “I let myself dream last night about what it would be like to hold the trophy,” Devine said. “It’s hard to put into words what it means, not just to me but to this group of players. For New Zealand Cricket, it’s been a long time between drinks.”

Despite this win, Devine confirmed that she will step down as captain, stating, “No chance. I am done.” She also praised Kerr, calling her a “once-in-a-generation player” who was integral to their victory.

This marked South Africa’s second consecutive loss in a Women’s T20 World Cup final, after losing to Australia in 2022. Earlier this year, the South African men’s team also fell short in the T20 World Cup final, losing to India.

New Zealand’s victory is a testament to their resilience and hard work over the past 18 months, finally culminating in their historic World Cup triumph.

  • NRI sponsored quota controversy: On the last day of document verification, Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said – “The seats of those who do not get the verification done will be cancelled.”

Satya Rajput, Raipur. After the controversy over NRI sponsored quota in private medical colleges in Chhattisgarh, the scrutiny of documents started from October 19, of which today was the last day. Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that as per the instructions of the court, the documents of those students who have been allotted seats in NRI quota are being verified as per the rules. The entire situation will be clear only after the verification process and further action will be decided on the basis of the report.

Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal clarified, “No verification, no seat,” which means that if students of allotted seats are unable to get the document verification done, their seats will automatically be considered canceled after the stipulated deadline. He informed that as per NMC guidelines, if any seat remains vacant after verification, guidance will be taken from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for further recruitment process.

It is noteworthy that on September 24, the Supreme Court gave its decision against SLA (C) 22174/2024 Punjab and others in the Supreme Court. In this, calling MBBS NRI sponsored quota a fraud, it was said that only NRI students should be given admission on NRI quota. Even after this, second round counseling was held on NRI sponsored quota seats of private medical colleges of the state. Admission of 50 students also took place. On the other hand, on the basis of the order of the Supreme Court, the Directorate of Medical Education sought opinion from the Advocate General and then it was decided that the documents of the students admitted under NRI quota and the registered students should be verified.

103 seats for NRI in the state

At present five private medical colleges are operating in the state. There are 15 seats under NRI quota in the only college and 22 seats are earmarked in the remaining four. Till the second round of counselling, admission on 93 seats was completed, admission on the remaining 10 seats was to be given through mopup. After this, on Tuesday, October 15, an order was issued to postpone the allotment of the mopup round.

    vacant seats for general students

If NRI quota seat remains vacant in a private medical college during counselling, it will be allotted to successful general students on the basis of NEET. Its direct benefit will be given to those meritorious students of the state, who miss admission due to low marks.

There will be a ban on rigging

On the basis of old rules, the scam of selling MBBS seats for more than one crore rupees in the name of admission through NRI quota will stop after the implementation of this order. Till now, seats of this category were allotted based on the rules of the year 2018, the benefit of which was also availed by students who were ineligible.

  • Israel Strikes Hezbollah’s Financial Arm, Destroys Terror Infrastructure In Lebanon | world news

Israeli Air Force (IAF) on Monday said that it launched a series of targeted strikes against Hezbollah’s military arm, aiming to disrupt their financial operations. The strikes, conducted on Monday, hit dozens of facilities and sites in Beirut, southern Lebanon, and deep within Lebanese territory. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that Hezbollah stores billions of dollars in the Al-Qard al-Hassan Association’s branches, directly funding their terror activities. This includes purchasing weapons and paying operatives in Hezbollah’s military wing.

“Hezbollah stores billions of dollars in the association’s branches, including money that was directly held under the name of the terrorist organization,” according to the statement. Before launching the strikes, the IDF claimed that it took measures to minimize harm to civilians. Advance warnings were issued through various platforms to the local population. These strikes are part of the IDF’s ongoing efforts to degrade Hezbollah’s terror infrastructure and military capabilities.

“Hezbollah stores billions of dollars in the association’s branches, including money that was directly held under the name of the terrorist organization,” it added. The IDF mentioned that, prior to launching strikes, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including advance warnings issued via different platforms to the civilian population in the area.

These strikes, it claimed, are part of the IDF’s ongoing efforts to undermine Hezbollah’s terror infrastructure, military capabilities, and ability to rebuild. Meanwhile, in the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces destroyed terrorist infrastructure and tunnel shafts in Jabaliya, eliminating dozens of terrorists in 36 hours. The Gaza Division forces also destroyed terrorist infrastructure and a weapons warehouse in Rafah.

“During the activity of the forces, the fighters of the 401st TDF eliminated a number of terrorists who posed a threat to the forces by firing tanks, in skirmishes, and by directing air force strikes,” the IDF disclosed.

The IDF forces destroyed numerous Hezbollah weapon stockpiles in southern Lebanon, including weapons, anti-tank missiles and launchers aimed at the northern settlements, RPG launchers, cartridges, charges, grenades, and other battle gear.
