  • Honor killings rise in Pakistan: Over 100 killed in Sindh from January to June, says report world news

Pakistan News: At least 101 men and women were killed in the name of honor in Pakistan’s Sindh from January to June 2024, Pakistan-based The Express Tribune reported, citing figures released by the Sindh Suhai Organisation, a social and women rights body.

The Sindh Suhai Organization raised concerns pertaining to increasing incidents of violence against women, including murder and sexual harassment, in the province. As per the data released by the women rights body on Friday, the majority of honor killings took place in the Jacobabad district of Sindh, where 22 women and 12 men were killed for honour, The Express Tribune reported.

Furthermore, Kashmore reported the killing of 17 women and 6 men, Sukkur had 23, Khairpur saw 20, Ghotki recorded 19, Larkana experienced 12, and 76 were killed in several other districts across the province.

Several incidents of similar nature remain unreported, and in instances where the state does register complaints, families of women killed for alleged dishonour often do not seek any legal action. Even when they do, they frequently reach a compromise later on, as per the report.

As a result, only a small number of offenders are held accountable for honor killings, and the incidents continue to rise. Despite the rulings given by the court, jirgas (tribal councils) still convene to take decisions on the matter.

Women accused of dishonour are often buried, and no action is taken, as families term these incidents as suicides. In one of the incidents that took place recently, a man buried his wife alive after subjecting her to violence. He claimed that she had fled their home in the Saleh Pat area. An alarming pattern has emerged in which two women were killed simultaneously.

For instance, the murders of Shameem and Lal in Mehrabpur are linked to poverty, lack of education, a culture of banditry, tribal systems, and property disputes, according to The Express Tribune report.

The Suhai organization underlined that women are being sidelined in appointments across various government departments. Calling for the appointment of women Station House Officers (SHOs) in police, it said, “We demand that more women SHOs be appointed in police stations to facilitate women in expressing their issues.”

Ajay Jadeja Named Heir To Jamnagar Throne: Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja, who belongs to the royal family of Jamnagar (formerly Navanagar), the princely state of Gujarat, has been declared the new heir to the throne of Jamnagar. The current Jam Saheb of Jamnagar, Shatrushalysinghji Digvijaysinghji Maharaj, announced this historic decision through a letter late on Friday night. After this announcement, Ajay Jadeja will now be called the new Jam Saheb.

Ajay Jadeja’s father, Daulatsinhji Jadeja, a 53-year-old scion of the Jamnagar royal family, is Shatrushalysinghji’s cousin. While declaring Ajay Jadeja as his successor, Shatrushalysinghji said, “Dussehra is the day on which Pandavas experienced victory after successfully completing 14 years of exile. Today I also feel victorious, because Ajay Jadeja has accepted to become my successor and the next Jam Saheb of Nawanagar, which I truly consider a big boon for the people of Jamnagar.” He also thanked Ajay Jadeja for accepting this responsibility.

Career of former cricketer Ajay Jadeja

Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja, born in Jamnagar in 1971, had a brilliant career for Team India. Ajay Jadeja represented India from 1992 to 2000. However, after being caught in the fixing scandal, he could not take the field again for India. Jadeja got a clean chit from the court in the fixing case, but there was a stain on his career. Talking about his cricket career, Ajay Jadeja played 15 Tests and 196 ODI matches for India. In Test cricket, Jadeja scored 576 runs for Team India, while in ODI he has 5359 runs in his name, in which he has scored 6 centuries and 30 half-centuries. The most memorable moment of his cricket career came in the 1996 Cricket World Cup quarter-finals, when he led the Indian team to victory against arch-rivals Pakistan. Jadeja scored 45 runs in just 25 balls, 40 of which came in the last two overs of Waqar Younis. Apart from batting, Jadeja’s fielding was also praised a lot.

What is Ajay Jadeja doing now?

After retirement from cricket, Jadeja currently does commentary. Apart from this, he has also been a mentor for many different teams in IPL. Last year he also became the coach of Afghanistan. Jadeja did not charge any fees from the Afghanistan Cricket Board for his services. He was greatly appreciated for this generosity.

Jam Saheb Ajay Jadeja is the owner of immense wealth

It is noteworthy that Jadeja’s full name is Ajay Singh Jadeja. His father Daulatsinhji Jadeja came from the royal family and was a three-time MP from Jamnagar. This is the reason why Jadeja also inherited property from his ancestors. However, Jadeja liked cricket, so he pursued his career in the game. According to media reports, Jadeja has assets worth more than Rs 250 crore. Jadeja’s main source of income at present is cricket commentary. Apart from this, he has a house like a palace and he owns many luxury vehicles. Jadeja has been one of the highest-paid cricketers of his time.

Jamnagar State’s rich heritage in cricket

The royal family of Jamnagar has a rich heritage in cricket. The prestigious Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy are named after Jadeja’s relatives KS Ranjitsinhji and KS Duleepsinhji respectively.

Ravindra Jadeja is also a Rajput of Jamnagar

You will be surprised to know that like Ajay Jadeja, Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja is also a Rajput of Jamnagar. He has been performing brilliantly in all three areas – bowling, batting and fielding. At present, he is one of the most important players of the Indian team.

    History of Jamnagar royal family

The history of the royal family of Jamnagar is linked to King Jam Rawal of the Jadeja dynasty. He established the Nawanagar state in 1540 AD. He built a temple of Goddess Ashapura along with a fort and palace on the banks of two rivers, Rangamati and Nagamati. 36 types of Rajputs had come to Jamnagar from Kutch with Jam Rawal. Jam Rawal was the descendant of Jam Hala, hence the area was called ‘Halar’. In the local language the word ‘Jam’ means ‘chieftain’. The title of Jam Saheb was first used by Jam Rawalji Jadeja. Jamnagar was earlier known as Brass City. Jamnagar has base stations for the Indian Air Force, Indian Army and Indian Navy. There are also four famous marble Jain temples.

India has termed these events as ‘deplorable acts,’ and has called upon the Bangladeshi government to ensure the safety of minorities, especially Hindus, and protect their places of worship.

Attack on Puja Mandap in Dhaka

A crude bomb was reportedly thrown at a Durga Puja mandap in the Tantibazar area of Old Dhaka. The incident, which occurred around 7 pm local time on Friday, did not result in any major injuries, but it caused a minor fire. According to local reports, a group of youths threw a petrol-filled glass bottle aimed at the altar, sparking panic among devotees.

Five people were injured as volunteers chased after the attackers, who retaliated with knives.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch officers visited the site, with Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik stating that three individuals had been detained in connection with the attack. While initial investigations suggest the attack may have been related to a mugging incident, authorities are continuing to probe for further details.

Theft at Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple in Satkhira

On the same day, a religious artifact was stolen from the Jeshoreshwari Kali temple in Satkhira. The stolen item, a crown placed on the deity by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 2021 visit to the temple, holds significant religious and cultural value.

  • Fareed Zakaria said a big thing on Ukraine war mediation, ‘Opportunity for Modi to become a global politician’

New Delhi. Geopolitical expert Fareed Zakaria has emphasized India’s potential role in international diplomacy, adding that mediating the Russia-Ukraine war is a “big opportunity for Prime Minister Modi to become a global statesman”.

In a conversation with Rajdeep Sardesai, Zakaria acknowledged that India traditionally remains neutral in foreign policy matters, but has the ability to play a “very viable and constructive role” if it wants to. With this, he highlighted the position of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the global stage and suggested that Prime Minister Modi can work as a valuable mediator in the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

He noted that few world leaders have the credibility to communicate effectively with both Russia and Ukraine, citing only two: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Modi.

Zakaria said, “The war in Ukraine has stopped. There are very few parties who have the credibility to talk to both sides… If Prime Minister Modi proposes some kind of situation where he acts as a mediator, I think he can play a very constructive role. ” According to Zakaria, such a step will not only benefit global diplomacy but will also enhance India’s image on the international stage.

However, he stressed that this would require Modi to play the challenging role of an “honest mediator”, which is often fraught with difficulties and criticism. Zakaria concluded by pointing to the Indian leader’s diplomatic skills and platform as key assets in the pursuit of peace. “This is a great opportunity for Modi to become a global politician, if he wants to,”
