    The PCB has announced plans to increase spending on women’s cricket by USD 600,000 this season, but the lack of concrete details leaves many skeptical. As it stands, the gender pay gap within the PCB reflects broader issues of investment and support for women’s sports in Pakistan.

    The current financial struggles come at a time of turmoil for the PCB, particularly concerning leadership and player management.     The Supreme Court emphasized that its order should not be interpreted as casting doubt on the independence or fairness of the members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) established by the Andhra Pradesh Police. “We do not want this to turn into a political drama because the sentiments of crores of people across the world are involved. Therefore, if there is an independent body, everybody will have confidence,” it said.

    Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Police have temporarily stalled the SIT probe ordered by the state government into the alleged adulteration of Tirupati laddus after the matter came under the top court’s scanner.

    During the initial hearing on Monday, the Supreme Court noted that there was, at first glance, no evidence to suggest that animal fat had been used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus during the previous YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh.

    It said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should have ‘kept the gods away from politics’ before rushing in to make public statements based on unsure facts that lard was used to prepare the laddus under the previous regime.

    This will notably be the second time that Muizzu is visiting India this year after attending the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this June.

    It is pertinent to note that earlier almost every Maldivian President used to make his first foreign visit to India, but Muizzu changed the trend by first visiting Turkiye and then China, after assuming office.

    The tragic incident took place in Uttar Pradesh on Friday when a truck collided with a tractor-trolley, resulting in the death of ten people, police said, The tractor-trolley was carrying 13 labourers returning from construction work.

    The incident occurred around 1 AM on G T Road, between Kachhawan and Mirzamurad, near the Mirzapur-Varanasi border, according to Superintendent of Police (Mirzapur) Abhinandan.

    “The tractor trolley, carrying 13 labourers who were returning from construction work in Bhadohi district, was hit from behind by the truck that had gone out of the driver’s control,” the SP said, PTI reported. 

    On being alerted, the SP and other senior officers rushed to the scene to oversee the rescue operations.

    “Of the 13 injured, 10 died while the three others were taken to the hospital at the IIT-BHU, where their condition is stated to be normal,” the officer said.

    Police have sent the bodies to the mortuary, Abhinandan stated, adding that a case has been registered at the Kachhawan police station and further legal proceedings are underway.

    Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident, the officer said.
