    Virtual Digital Asset Service Providers (VDA SPs), whether operating within or outside India, are required to register with the FIU India as ‘Reporting Entities’ if engaged in activities such as virtual digital asset-to-fiat currency exchanges, transfers, safekeeping, administration, or facilitating control over virtual digital assets. These entities must comply with the regulations outlined in the PMLA of 2002, which includes reporting, record-keeping, and other obligations.

    According to the FIU notice, as of now, 31 VDA SPs have completed registration with FIU India. However, several offshore entities, despite serving a significant user base in India, have been avoiding registration, thus operating outside the purview of the Anti Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT) framework.

    The FIU India, as the primary national agency responsible for handling information related to suspicious financial transactions, plays a crucial role in sharing such information with enforcement agencies and foreign Financial Intelligence Units.

    The FIU’s move signifies a robust regulatory approach to ensure compliance within the cryptocurrency sector, emphasizing the need for adherence to anti-money laundering laws and frameworks. As a next step, the FIU has urged the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to block the URLs of these exchanges in India, intensifying efforts to curb illegal operations and protect the financial integrity of the country.

    The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued tsunami warnings for the coastal prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata and Toyama. Russia also issued tsunami warnings in its far eastern cities of Vladivostok and Nakhodka.

    Authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage and residents need to prepare for any more tremors, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in comments aired on NHK.

    More than 36,000 households had lost power in Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures, utilities provider Hokuriku Electric Power said.

    High speed rail services to Ishikawa have been suspended while telecom operators Softbank and KDDI reported phone and internet service disruptions in Ishikawa and Niigata, according to their websites.

    Japanese airline ANA turned back four planes headed to airports in Toyama and Ishikawa midair after the quake, while Japan Airlines canceled most of the flight services to Niigata and Ishikawa regions for the rest of the day, according to TV Asahi.

    Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority said no irregularities have been confirmed at nuclear power plants along the Sea of ​​Japan, including five active reactors at Kansai Electric Power’s Ohi and Takahama plants in Fukui Prefecture.

    Hokuriku’s Shika plant in Ishikawa, which was located the closest to the quake’s epicentre, had already halted its two reactors before the quake for regular inspection and saw no impact from the quake, the agency said.

    Earlier in November 2023, Azhar’s right hand Maulana Rahimullah Tariq was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Pakistan.
