Wimbledon 2024: Carlos Alcaraz defeated veteran player Novak Djokovic in a brilliant performance at the Wimbledon Cup and won the trophy for the second consecutive time. This is the fourth Grand Slam title for 21-year-old Spanish player Alcaraz. Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
Sunday’s final at Centre Court was a cakewalk for Alcaraz. Alcaraz only faltered when he held three match points while serving for a 5-4 win in the third set. But he composed himself and won his second consecutive Grand Slam trophy after his victory at the French Open last month. Alcaraz won his first Slam title as a teenager at the 2022 US Open. No player has won more Grand Slam titles than him before turning 22.
37-year-old Djokovic missed out on his eighth Wimbledon and 25th Grand Slam title. The match ended in less than two and a half hours. A long match full of ups and downs was expected from the opening game. But Alcaraz won the first two sets 6-2, making the third set the most competitive of the match.
Djokovic lost two break points in the first set by double faulting. Then he volleyed into the net at the start of the second set and finally lost it by double faulting. Young Alcaraz played brilliantly against the much older Djokovic.
