New trick of vicious thugs, fake contractor cheated Sarpanch of lakhs on the pretext of payment, police suspect data leakage

On the pretext of any construction work going on in the Panchayat, the laborers working in the Panchayat are being cheated by calling a fake contractor on the pretext of payment. This case has come from Gariaband district. Where the vicious thug told the Sarpanch on a fraud call that the laborers have gone to work for Jaljeevan Mission, for whose ration I am depositing money. 1.98 lakh rupees were taken back by pretending to have received more amount through fake transaction messages. The police have registered a complaint in the matter and started investigation.

According to the information, Dahigaon Sarpanch Khageshwar Nagesh became the victim of an online fraud on Wednesday. He received a call from mobile number 9696896690. The caller introduced himself as a contractor of Jal Jeevan Mission and said that his laborers were going to Dabnai, a dependent village of his panchayat, to work under the mission. 50 thousand payment had to be made for his ration expenses. The Sarpanch gave his son’s number to receive payment. In which the thug sent 3 fake messages of bank transaction, two messages were of Rs 49000 and the third was of Rs 99000. As soon as the message arrived, the swindler asked for the return of all the three payments citing excessive payment to his son due to network issue. The son deposited Rs 1.98 lakh on the ‘Phone Pay’ number 9628329182 given by the swindler without checking the account. This amount was taken on loan for doing business.

In this matter, police station in-charge Gautam Gawde said that on the basis of the complaint, a case has been registered under Section 420 and 66 D of the IT Act and investigation has been started.

Suspicion of data leak

Police station in-charge Gautam Gawde said that the data of work allotted under Jal Jeevan Mission might have been leaked. The thug also has information about those whose work is still pending in the Panchayat. He has the name and number of the Sarpanch. A similar call also came to Supabeda Sarpanch Secretary, but he was alerted. To avoid this, the station in-charge appealed that do not do online transactions with any unknown person, nor give them any information about your bank details.
