A day after the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in Parliament, the women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the party headquarters.
The 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which provides for 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, got the approval of the Parliament on Thursday.
This bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and the Rajya Sabha approved it on Thursday. A large number of women were present at the BJP headquarters to welcome Modi.
Many women who were beneficiaries of government schemes were also included in these. Modi bowed while greeting a group of beneficiaries.
This group of beneficiaries garlanded them and wished them good luck. Many party leaders including BJP President JP Nadda and Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani were present on the occasion.
JP Nadda described the passage of the bill as historic and credited this achievement to Modi’s foresight and determination.
Amid thunderous applause from a large number of women present at the BJP headquarters, PM Modi said that this is proof of fulfilling ‘Modi’s guarantee’ that he will usher in a new era of women-led development.
Referring to many schemes and decisions of his government for the welfare of women, Modi said that in the last nine years, the government has tried to break every restriction related to mothers and sisters.
He said, “Our government has made such schemes one after the other and started such programs which have given our sisters a life of respect, convenience, security and prosperity.”
