Hakeem Nasir, Mahasamund. The campaign being run for TB free India is now visible on the ground. As a result of this campaign, 292 village panchayats of Mahasamund district have become TB free. For this achievement, the Government of India has given the Panchayats the certificate of ‘TB free Panchayat’, while the villagers including the health staff are also happy with this achievement.

Under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program, Mahasamund district had the target of TB elimination by 2025. This target is to be achieved five years before the deadline of 2030 set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Between January 2023 and December 2023, 292 panchayats out of 551 panchayats of the district were selected and 30 people per thousand population were examined in the potential gram panchayats. In this campaign of TB elimination, the health department of the district, panchayat representatives, voluntary organizations and villagers have worked hard together.

100% panchayats will be TB free by the end of the year: CMHO

TB cases were identified and treated through regular checkups, timely treatment and public awareness campaigns, as a result of which 292 gram panchayats of the district have now become TB free. On this success, Chief Medical Officer Dr. P Kudeshiya says that this process will continue and by the end of this year 100% panchayats of the district will become TB free.

Chhattisgarh is at third place in TB free campaign

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken the initiative of TB free panchayat in the World TB Day program organized in Varanasi in March 2023. Under this, these 292 gram panchayats of Mahasamund district have achieved the goals of TB elimination by measuring and verifying the valid indicators. Chhattisgarh state is at number three in India and Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh is at the first place in the TB free campaign.
