Suresh Paratagiri, Bijapur. As part of the anti-Maoist operation being conducted in the district, a joint team of Thana Nelsnar and CRPF 199 Battalion Camp Kodoli was conducting MCP action for checking vehicles at Mirtur-Kodoli Chowk. During this, the security forces caught 3 Naxalites including a Janmilitia commander with sharp weapons.
Among the arrested Maoists, militia commander Kamalu Benzam was involved in the murder of a district panchayat member in March 2021. There are already 9 permanent warrants pending against him in Mirtur police station. Bijapur Superintendent of Police had also announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the arrest of Kamalu Benzam. Other arrested Maoists were involved in incidents of planting IEDs, blocking roads, putting up pamphlets and banners.
After legal action against the Maoists at Nelsnar police station, they were produced in the court on judicial remand.
