An incident aboard a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru saw a passenger enduring the entire flight confined to the aircraft’s restroom. The airline has issued an apology and allegedly offered compensation to the affected passenger. The unusual circumstances and the resulting online reaction have garnered significant attention.
After the flight landed at Bengaluru airport, the passenger was rescued by ground staff and engineers who managed to open the locked toilet door, which had malfunctioned mid-flight.
The event took place on a Monday night. The Mumbai-Bengaluru flight experienced a two-hour delay, departing at 2:10 AM instead of the scheduled 10:55 PM.
Shortly after takeoff, the passenger, occupying seat 14D, entered the restroom and was unable to leave due to a faulty lock, leading to a mid-air predicament. The crew’s attempts to unlock the door were unsuccessful.
To console the passenger, the crew devised a plan, slipping a handwritten note through the door. The note instructed the passenger to remain calm and seated on the toilet until the plane landed in Bengaluru. Images of the note quickly spread across social media.
The flight eventually landed in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM. An engineer at the airport then opened the door. The airline offered an apology for the inconvenience.
