Air India Kanishka Bombing: Canada Reveals Identity of ‘Mr. X’, a Key Figure in 1985 Tragedy

Forty years after the Air India Kanishka bombing, which resulted in 329 fatalities, Canada has identified ‘Mr. X,’ a previously unknown individual involved in the event. The RCMP’s efforts have shed light on a critical aspect of the bombing investigation. This revelation represents a significant advancement in the case, as ‘Mr. X’ had remained unidentified for many years. The bombing, which took place on June 23, 1985, is considered one of the worst terrorist attacks in Canadian history. RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul confirmed the death of Mr. X during a memorial held to commemorate the victims. He chose not to reveal Mr. X’s name, citing privacy regulations. The investigation found that ‘Mr. X,’ accompanied by Talwinder Singh Parmar and Inderjit Singh Reyat, traveled to Duncan, British Columbia, on June 4, 1985. The group was observed testing a bomb in a forest. CSIS agents, who were monitoring the group, mistook the explosion for gunfire, resulting in a failure to intervene. Air India Flight 182 was targeted by Khalistani terrorists while en route from Montreal to Mumbai via London. All 329 passengers perished in the explosion.
