In a Truth Social post, Trump expressed strong disapproval, calling Mamdani a “100% Communist Lunatic.” He added his perception of the impact of Mamdani’s win on the nation’s history. Mamdani, the New York State Assembly member, reacted to the win by quoting Nelson Mandela. Mamdani is the first South Asian man to serve in the New York State Assembly, the first Ugandan, and the only third Muslim ever to be a member of the body. His parents are Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair and Indo-Ugandan professor Mahmood Mamdani.
