The Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, appeared before the MP-MLA court in Lucknow. This appearance was linked to a defamation case stemming from his remarks about the Indian Army. The President of UP Congress, Ajay Rai, noted that Gandhi was in Lucknow for the court proceedings. Simultaneously, Gandhi addressed the death of a student from Balasore, Odisha, who died after setting herself on fire. Gandhi described the incident as an “organised murder by the BJP’s system.” He claimed the BJP failed to provide protection and justice to the student who had reported sexual harassment and faced continuous threats and humiliation. In his statement, Gandhi alleged the government was protecting the accused and called upon Prime Minister Modi to intervene, emphasizing the need for the safety and justice of India’s women. Protests were held outside AIIMS Bhubaneswar by Congress workers after the death of the student. Police later took the protesting workers into custody. The AIIMS Bhubaneswar confirmed the death of the 20-year-old student from Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Odisha’s Balasore.
