The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a reminder to parents and guardians regarding the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) for children aged seven and above. This update is specifically for those children whose Aadhaar biometric details have not yet been updated. This ensures continued access to vital services, including school admissions, examinations, scholarships, and DBT schemes. An updated Aadhaar card with current biometric data is crucial for uninterrupted access to these services. When children are first enrolled for Aadhaar under the age of five, only basic information and photos are collected, as biometric data collection isn’t performed at that age. The first biometric update, performed between 5 and 7 years of age, is offered without any charges. However, a fee of Rs 100 is applicable for updates completed after the age of seven. If updates are neglected beyond the specified timeframe, the Aadhaar number could be deactivated, leading to potential disruptions in service access. The timely updating of biometric information is considered essential for maintaining the accuracy and reliability of a child’s Aadhaar data, which is integral for accessing government services.
