A collective effort by Members of Parliament resulted in the submission of a memorandum to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma, a High Court judge. The request is directly linked to the ongoing investigation into the cash discovery. The impeachment motion was signed by 145 Lok Sabha members under constitutional provisions. The signatories represent a diverse range of political parties, including Congress, TDP, JDU, JDS, Jan Sena Party, AGP, SS (Shinde), LJSP, SKP, and CPM. Notable figures such as Anurag Singh Thakur, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Rahul Gandhi, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, PP Chaudhary, Supriya Sule, and KC Venugopal added their names to the memorandum. The case is rooted in the alleged discovery of damaged currency notes at Justice Varma’s residence in March 2025, prompting a parliamentary investigation. Previously, a judicial committee had recommended his removal. Justice Varma challenged the committee’s decision by approaching the Supreme Court.
