Arunachal Pradesh is set to spearhead the development of India’s first private 2G ethanol plant, with a focus on utilizing bamboo as a sustainable feedstock. Minister Ojing Tasing revealed this strategic move, highlighting its significance in advancing the state’s clean energy agenda. The announcement came after the Minister’s virtual participation in a conference themed ‘Arunachal Pradesh Leading in Sustainable Bio-industrial Development’. Tasing described the project as a landmark initiative for fostering a green future within the state. He emphasized that it represents Arunachal Pradesh’s dedication to leading India’s shift towards clean energy solutions. This endeavor utilizes bamboo, a resource abundant in the region. The Minister further noted that the ethanol plant will not only promote eco-friendly industrial practices, but also create fresh economic prospects for local populations.
Ethanol serves as an alternative fuel for vehicles. It is produced using crops such as sugarcane and maize, and is blended with petrol. The primary goal is to reduce petrol consumption and decrease pollution, alongside providing farmers with additional income from crops like sugarcane and maize.
Ethanol is combined with petrol in a specific ratio. E20 fuel is now available in the market. New vehicles also indicate ‘E20,’ meaning the fuel contains 20% ethanol. This mixture combusts in the engine, generating energy. Ethanol functions similarly to petrol in the engine, providing energy, while simultaneously reducing pollution due to its natural composition.
