Reports of racial discrimination are persistent in Ireland. A recent event in Dublin saw a 60-year-old man of Indian descent become the target of racial abuse and harassment from children. The incident began with the children requesting a selfie with the man, followed by their mockery of him and an attempted theft of his wallet. This incident has raised significant concerns for the Indian community in Ireland, further fueling calls for legal reforms. The man and his family were waiting for a bus when the children, believed to be approximately 7 or 8 years old, approached. The children first asked the man for a selfie and then started to make fun of him. One of them also attempted to steal his wallet. The daughter of the victim shared that they tried to remain calm and ignore the behavior initially. However, one child later blocked her father’s path and made inappropriate gestures. This incident left the entire family shaken. The daughter emphasized the helplessness she felt as she witnessed her father being harassed in front of her. She called for improvements in the legal framework to better protect people of color in Ireland, highlighting the current challenges. This incident follows a similar episode the previous week in which a young girl, just six years old, faced racist abuse from older children.
