Meanwhile, he has written an emotional letter to the people of Rae Bareli Lok Sabha. In which he has announced not to contest Lok Sabha elections from Rae Bareli. Talking about Sonia’s political journey from Amethi and Rae Bareli, Sonia Gandhi contested her first elections in 1999 from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Bellary in Karnataka. Sonia won from both the places but remained the MP of Amethi and left Bellary. In 2004, she left Amethi and contested from Rae Bareli, Dos’s seat, and won. Rae Bareli is one of the major Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh. This place has historical connections with the Nehru-Gandhi family as well as the Congress Party. In 1952, Firoz Gandhi won from Rae Bareli for the first time. Indira has also won the election from here. Sonia Gandhi won the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019.
