The Bihar government, under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has initiated the transfer of seven thousand rupees to the bank accounts of 651,602 families impacted by the recent floods. This financial assistance is a form of compensation, not part of a pre-existing government scheme. The floods caused widespread devastation in several districts, including Buxar, Bhagalpur, Arrah, and Katihar, resulting in displacement and agricultural losses.
The Chief Minister had undertaken an aerial assessment of the affected regions before the financial aid was distributed. The funds were disbursed during a program in Patna. Nitish Kumar confirmed the aid distribution on the social media platform X.
In a post on X, Nitish Kumar stated that 456.12 crore rupees had been transferred via DBT to 651,602 flood-affected families, with each family receiving 7000 rupees. He asserted that the state government prioritizes the welfare of disaster victims and is committed to serving the interests of its citizens. He further advised people to stay cautious, especially during September.
The rising water levels of the Ganges and other rivers have affected around 38 lakh people living in over 60 blocks spread across 12 districts. The areas impacted include Patna, Begusarai, Munger, and Nalanda. With the flood situation still a concern, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed officials to remain vigilant and ensure all possible aid is given to the affected families.
