A serious incident of violence and harassment has occurred at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Ranchi, Jharkhand. An MBA student was targeted by an unknown individual who entered the campus on Wednesday night and began harassing her. When the student protested, the assailant responded by attacking her with a blade, causing her injuries. Following the assault, the injured student was immediately taken to a nursing home for medical attention. News of the incident prompted immediate protests from students who gathered at the campus late into the night. Despite efforts by the college administration to resolve the situation and the presence of the local BIT OP police station, the students continued their demonstration. The students have declared a class boycott for Thursday to show their disapproval of the incident. Police are also investigating the matter, gathering information from the victim. The attack took place late Wednesday night while the student was walking within the campus. The unidentified attacker entered the campus, initiated the harassment, and then used a blade to inflict injuries after the student resisted. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the campus to identify the individual responsible. BIT Mesra, founded in 1955 by industrialist B.M. Birla, is a well-regarded institution. The institute, spread over approximately 780 acres, holds deemed university status from the UGC and is recognized by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Earlier this year, President Droupadi Murmu attended the platinum jubilee celebrations, marking the 70th anniversary of BIT Mesra.
