Chhattisgarh’s Excise Department is set to introduce a cashless payment system across all liquor stores to promote digital transactions. Customers will soon be able to pay for their purchases online, as announced by Excise Minister Shri Lakhanlal Dewangan during a recent departmental review meeting. Minister Dewangan highlighted the importance of encouraging online payment methods in liquor stores, mandating that all transactions within these establishments be conducted digitally.
Minister Dewangan also emphasized the importance of installing CCTV cameras in liquor shops, as per the Chief Minister’s vision, to facilitate 24/7 surveillance from the department’s headquarters. He further directed that stringent measures be taken against the illicit manufacturing, storage, transport, and sale of alcohol and narcotics. He also emphasized bolstering vigilance at excise check posts situated at inter-state boundaries and executing targeted special operations.
In addition, Minister Dewangan instructed that special attention be given to prevent the unauthorized sale and consumption of alcohol in hotels, dhabas, and farmhouses. He also discussed the management of liquor stores, including the licensing procedures, the marketing corporation’s functions, and bar-club operations. He directed the officials to crack down on any instances of alcohol consumption during parties hosted in farmhouses.
A detailed presentation of work plans aimed at meeting revenue targets was provided during the meeting. The Secretary of the Commercial Tax Excise Department, Smt. R. Sangeeta, presented a comprehensive overview of the department’s activities. The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from the Excise Department and representatives from various corporations.
