In Nahanda village, Balod district, a distressing incident unfolded where a woman who relies on begging for survival had a substantial amount of money stolen from her home. The theft occurred while the woman was away, participating in the Teej festival. An unidentified perpetrator exploited the unoccupied house to execute the crime. Authorities at the Deori police station have initiated an investigation following the victim’s report.
Amrit Vaishnav, a resident of Nahanda village, detailed that she makes her living through begging, as she has no children to support her. She earns her daily bread by going from village to village. On July 29, 2024, she sold a part of her home to Jitendra Patel for 2.50 lakh rupees. She also possessed an additional 4,000 rupees earned through her begging. The total sum was securely stored in a steel container inside a trunk, protected by two locks.
The victim shared that on August 25, 2025, at about 3 pm, she locked her house and went to Piparkhar village to celebrate the Teej festival. Upon her return on August 27 at 4 pm, she discovered the main door lock was broken. Upon entering, she found that both locks on the trunk, along with their latches, had been forced open, and the 2.50 lakh rupees stored there, plus the 4,000 rupees from her bag, were missing.
Following the discovery of the theft, Amrit Vaishnav alerted the local residents and the village Kotwar. She subsequently filed a complaint at the Deori police station. Police in-charge Rakesh Thakur confirmed that a case was registered against the unknown thief. The police have visited the crime scene and started their investigation.
