In a move to fortify India’s social security structure, the central government has launched the SPREE 2025 scheme, designed to encourage the registration of employers and employees. Running until December 31, 2025, the scheme offers employers and workers an opportunity to enroll in the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme. This initiative highlights the government’s dedication to worker welfare, with the goal of establishing a comprehensive social security network.
The primary goal of the scheme is to bring a vast number of unorganized, temporary, and contract workers under the ESI coverage, thereby granting them access to essential benefits such as healthcare, maternity support, financial protection, and other social advantages. Employers benefit from several provisions, including waivers on past contribution penalties, exemption from past case inspections, and registration validity commencing from the date declared by the employer.
The campaign has a specific emphasis on Chhattisgarh, where the ESIC is conducting awareness campaigns, setting up helpdesks, and holding seminars through its regional and sub-regional offices in Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, and Durg. Employers with 10 or more employees who have not yet registered under the ESI Act, or who have not included all eligible employees, are encouraged to register online through the ESIC portal, Shram Suvidha portal, or MCA portal.
