The controversy surrounds Moitra’s alleged comment, made in Bengali, that Shah’s “head should be cut off.” This statement has led to an FIR being registered against her under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at a police station in Raipur. Moitra clarified that her words were meant to be understood within the context of Bengali idioms, which, according to her, are often used to express accountability and shame. She provided examples to illustrate her point, contrasting literal interpretations with the figurative language she employed. Moitra suggested that the BJP’s understanding of the context was lacking and that they were deliberately misinterpreting her words.
