A contentious social media post concerning Prophet Muhammad, authored by Ramkinker Pandey, ignited a wave of protest within the Muslim community in the Bermo area of Bokaro district on Saturday. Demonstrators voiced their discontent, gathering in front of the local police station and imploring the authorities to take immediate action. Recognizing the volatile nature of the situation, Bermo police promptly intervened, detaining Ramkinker Pandey for interrogation before any unrest could spread. The police have assured that a thorough investigation of the contentious post is underway, with stringent measures planned against any individual found culpable. During the demonstration, irate protesters encircled the police station and chanted provocative slogans such as ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ in the presence of the administration. The protesters issued a warning, declaring that any act of disrespect towards religious sentiments would not be condoned. Both the police and the administrative bodies appealed for calm. Furthermore, community leaders and local figures urged all parties to exercise restraint. The Bokaro SP addressed the ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ slogans, affirming that comprehensive measures were being implemented. They added that such behavior, especially when the police are responding to the community’s concerns, is indicative of a negative mindset. An FIR has been filed, resulting in the arrest of six individuals. This action serves as a clear message to those who believe they are above the law and seek to disrupt social harmony, an act that will not be tolerated.
