Hindi Diwas: Mamata Banerjee’s Message and Government Initiatives for Hindi Language

On Hindi Diwas, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conveyed her warm wishes to the people of West Bengal and the entire nation. She highlighted her respect for all languages and extended greetings to all Hindi speakers. She also mentioned various initiatives undertaken by her government to promote and honor Hindi and other languages. According to the Chief Minister, Hindi has been recognized as an official language in areas where more than 10% of the population speaks Hindi. Furthermore, languages such as Santhali, Kurukh, Kurmali, Nepali, Urdu, Rajbanshi, Kamtapuri, Odia, Punjabi, and Telugu have also received recognition. The state government is also actively involved in promoting the Sadri language. In the field of education, the government has taken steps to bolster Hindi language education. A Hindi university has been established in Howrah, and Hindi-medium degree colleges have been established in Banarhat and Naxalbari. Postgraduate courses in Hindi have been introduced in several colleges, and question papers for higher secondary examinations are now available in Hindi. Students of Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya can also take their exams in Hindi. The state government has introduced free social security schemes for Hindi-speaking individuals working in the unorganized sector. Additionally, outstanding infrastructure has been developed for the Gangasagar Mela, and a two-day public holiday has been declared for Chhath Puja.
