A bilateral meeting between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio took place on Monday in New York, where they discussed several bilateral and international matters. They agreed on the necessity of ongoing collaboration on critical areas. This meeting, occurring during the UNGA session, was the first since trade disagreements emerged due to US tariffs on Indian goods and the purchase of Russian oil. India and the US are actively seeking to finalize a trade agreement, with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal heading negotiations in Washington. The leaders last met in Washington in July for the 10th Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and had a previous meeting in January.
