The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Sheikh, has died. The Saudi Arabian news agency reported his passing on Tuesday. He was 82 years old. The funeral prayers will take place at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh following the Asr prayer. Beyond his role as Grand Mufti, he also led the General Presidency for Scholarly Research and Ifta, as well as the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League. The Royal Court recognized his profound impact, acknowledging a significant loss for both the Kingdom and the broader Islamic community. Sheikh Abdulaziz had been the Grand Mufti for 26 years, succeeding Abdulaziz bin Baz in 1999. The Asr prayer, followed by the funeral, is scheduled for 3:12 PM (Saudi time) at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have conveyed their sympathies to Sheikh Abdulaziz’s family, the people of Saudi Arabia, and the global Islamic community.
