The 2012 Bhojpuri blockbuster, ‘Ganga Devi,’ featured a star-studded cast, including Nirahua and Pakhi Hegde, along with Bollywood icons Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. The film, directed by Abhishek Chanda, provided a significant boost to Nirahua’s career. In a recent interview, Nirahua opened up about his experiences, particularly recalling a specific incident involving Jaya Bachchan.
In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Nirahua shared his perspective on working with Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. He expressed his initial apprehension, admitting he was overwhelmed by the opportunity to share the screen with such legends. He described Amitabh Bachchan as a ‘Mahayanak’ (megastar), highlighting the honor of working alongside him. The interview also touched upon a memorable moment during the filming of ‘Ganga Devi,’ where Jaya Bachchan accidentally struck Nirahua during a scene.
Nirahua recounted the scene where he was to pretend to hit his on-screen wife, with Jaya Bachchan playing his mother. As he acted, Jaya Bachchan, in character, hit him with a prop stick. He said, “You are hitting me,” and she responded, “Why are you hitting my daughter-in-law?” He stated that although the hit was unintentional, he cherished it as a blessing from a respected actress.
