A violent clash erupted in Bihar’s Munger district over a land dispute, resulting in approximately 50 rounds of gunfire. The incident involved two groups and left one person injured. The conflict arose from a dispute over land ownership and alleged illegal encroachment.
Following the incident, local residents protested by blocking the Munger-Lakhisarai road. Police authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.
The dispute reportedly began on Saturday concerning a boundary wall at a cemetery, quickly escalating into stone-pelting before gunfire ensued. The land in question is located near the Harda petrol pump and belongs to Dashrath Manjhi, with a person named Bablu Malik attempting to claim it. The ownership of the land has been disputed for the past 25 years and is currently under legal review.
Just two days prior to the shooting, Bablu Malik was instructed by local police not to construct a wall on the disputed land until the court case was resolved. However, Malik disregarded the warning and began construction, leading to protests and subsequent gunfire. Several shots were fired as the situation escalated, with onlookers attempting to avoid the crossfire. Ankush was injured in the shooting.
Ankush’s family reported that he works outside the state and had recently returned from Delhi. He was shot while returning home after bathing in the Ganga River. The bullet struck his left leg, and he was immediately taken to the hospital. Protests continued, with locals blocking the Munger-Lakhisarai highway. Medical personnel have confirmed that the bullet entered near the knee and exited, fracturing the bone. Ankush is in critical condition.
Police responded swiftly to the incident, with SP Syed Imran Masood leading a large police contingent to the site. The SP confirmed the clash, the gunfire, and the arrest of 22 individuals from both sides. Authorities are currently reviewing video footage to identify other individuals involved.
