Mathiyazhagan, the district secretary of actor Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has been arrested in connection with the devastating stampede in Karur. The incident resulted in the deaths of 41 people and injuries to 60 others. Mathiyazhagan is charged with serious offenses, including murder and endangering public safety. The arrest is a direct result of the investigation into the stampede that occurred during a TVK rally due to overcrowding. The FIR identifies Mathiyazhagan as the prime suspect. The FIR also names Bussy Anand, the state general secretary, and Nirmal Kumar, the deputy general secretary. They are charged with culpable homicide, endangering life, and disobedience. The FIR attributes responsibility for the incident to the party and actor-politician Vijay, highlighting the delayed appearance of Vijay which led to the large crowd and subsequent disaster.
