Apple’s expansion into new product categories continues with the anticipated launch of a foldable device. Reports indicate that Samsung will be the primary supplier of foldable screens for this new product. Samsung Display’s president, Lee Cheong, has announced the commencement of mass production of OLED panels designed for foldable phones. Although the recipient of these panels was not explicitly named, sources suggest Apple is the likely customer. The rumored specifications for the iPhone Fold include a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch folding inner screen. It is expected to feature a side-mounted touch ID. The anticipated release date for this foldable iPhone is in September 2026, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 series. Mark Gurman’s insights suggest Apple’s foldable device will prioritize a slim design and incorporate innovative folding technology, with manufacturing handled by Foxconn in China. The new device will have to contend with existing market leaders like the Samsung Galaxy Z series.
