Bollywood director Karan Johar has shared his views on the controversial AI-generated ending of the film ‘Raanjhanaa’. The film, originally featuring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, was re-released with a new ending created using artificial intelligence. This ending showed the character Kundan surviving, contrary to the original conclusion where he dies.
Johar’s comments add to the ongoing debate sparked by director Anand L. Rai. Rai, whose upcoming film ‘Tere Ishq Mein…’ stars Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, previously criticized the alteration, calling it a form of ‘cinema murder’.
Johar supports Rai’s stance, stating that contractual obligations and ethical considerations should take precedence. He suggested that if a producer has complete rights, they can make alterations. However, when these rights are not explicitly defined, moral responsibility becomes crucial. He believes that changing a director’s vision without their consent is unethical.
Johar pointed out his current control over his intellectual properties. He would always seek the director’s input before making changes to their work. He stressed that without proper consent or contractual agreements, such changes are unacceptable.
