In a major anti-smuggling success along the India-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) has seized a substantial cache of gold. Operatives from the 32 Battalion of the South Bengal Frontier, stationed at the Horandipur Border Outpost, apprehended an Indian national in possession of 20 gold biscuits, with an estimated market value of Rs 2.82 crore.
The operation was a direct result of precise intelligence gathered by the BSF. Information suggested that an individual residing in Muslimpara village was preparing to smuggle Bangladeshi-origin gold into India via the Horandipur sector. The tip-off was received late on October 11.
Following the intelligence, the BSF troops heightened their vigilance and strategically positioned themselves for an ambush. Around 6 a.m. the next morning, their alertness paid off when they spotted a suspicious person moving cautiously amidst thick bamboo foliage. The individual was quickly surrounded and taken into custody.
A search of the apprehended person revealed a packet containing 20 gold biscuits, collectively weighing 2332.66 grams. The arrested individual and the confiscated gold have been handed over to the appropriate government departments for further necessary actions.
