Tesla’s ambitious entry into India has seen its Model Y sales decrease in October 2025. The company registered sales of 40 Model Y units, a 37.5% drop from the previous month. This follows a period of considerable excitement after the opening of Tesla’s first showrooms in Mumbai and Delhi earlier this year. While the overall Indian electric vehicle sector is expanding rapidly, with a 17.78% rise in sales to 18,055 units in October, Tesla’s performance indicates a cooling of demand after the initial launch buzz. The Model Y, exclusively offered as a CBU import, faces high import duties that contribute to its elevated price point in India, ranging from Rs 59.89 lakh to Rs 67.89 lakh. Despite these challenges, the Model Y boasts impressive specifications, including a range of up to 622 km and rapid acceleration, positioning it against competitors like the Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB, and the BMW iX1.
