Tejashwi Yadav, a prominent figure from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has been formally elected as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) for the Bihar Legislative Assembly. This development occurs as current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has tendered his resignation, paving the way for the establishment of a new government following recent electoral outcomes.
Yadav, who successfully defended his seat in Raghopur, will now serve as the principal voice of the opposition for the second time. His appointment reflects the RJD’s position within the Mahagathbandhan alliance, which garnered 35 seats in total during the Bihar Assembly elections. The RJD itself secured 25 seats, underscoring its role as the leading party within the opposition bloc.
The political landscape shifted significantly with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) securing a decisive win, claiming 202 out of 243 seats. The BJP emerged as the dominant party within the NDA, winning 89 seats, while Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) secured 85 seats. The Mahagathbandhan’s performance, including the RJD’s 25 seats, highlighted the significant mandate received by the ruling alliance.
