A significant allegation has been leveled against the Jharkhand government, accusing it of manufacturing new offenses to mask ongoing criminal activities. Babulal Marandi, the BJP state president and Leader of the Opposition, has declared that the state and its established systems have adopted the practice of creating false crimes to hide actual wrongdoing. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigations into the extensive coal operations in Dhanbad have reportedly unearthed disturbing details. The most perilous aspect of this situation, as highlighted by Marandi, involves senior police officers allegedly using their ill-gotten gains from the coal trade to contract the elimination of their own foot soldiers. This alleged plot aims to prevent these individuals from cooperating with the ED and revealing incriminating facts. Reports indicate that those being questioned by the ED are now allegedly targets of assassination plots to ensure their silence. The opposition draws parallels to past incidents where ‘encounters’ were allegedly orchestrated to eliminate evidence. Marandi recalled a former DGP against whom allegations of accepting bribes for staged encounters were made, with even ruling party members denouncing him as the most corrupt in Jharkhand’s history. He urged the ED to exercise utmost vigilance, asserting that in this environment, suppression of truth prevails over its revelation, and when the corridors of power intersect with criminal elements, justice is easily undermined.
