Authorities in the Koriya district of Chhattisgarh have arrested a young man for the murder of his 15-year-old friend, Ritesh Singh, following a birthday party that turned violent. The investigation led by SDPO Rajesh Sahu revealed that the death, which happened on the night of January 4, was not a simple traffic mishap but a premeditated act of violence. The victim and the accused, Vidyachandra Sahu, had been drinking together at Jhumka Dam and later in Patna. The friction between the two started when Ritesh used Sahu’s phone to contact Sahu’s father, leading to an argument that Ritesh tried to end by walking away.
Enraged by the phone call, Vidyachandra Sahu allegedly chased Ritesh in his car and intentionally crashed into him, causing fatal injuries. After the collision, Sahu fled the scene, while other friends took Ritesh to the hospital but disappeared once his death was confirmed. The police were able to piece together the events after finding inconsistencies in the statements of the witnesses. Charges have been filed under the SC/ST Act and other relevant sections of the law. The main accused has been sent to jail, while the role of the other friends who were present during the incident is currently under scrutiny to determine if they assisted in covering up the crime.
