Mumbai’s BMC election victory for Mahayuti masks deepening cracks over the mayor selection. Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Priyanka Chaturvedi has called out Eknath Shinde and BJP, decrying the herding of 29 factional councillors into a hotel as virtual imprisonment.
To IANS, Chaturvedi laid bare the intrigue: ‘No need for hotel barracks if BJP-Shiv Sena ties were solid.’ She indicted Shinde for party treason, selling BMC nominations for money and influence. ‘It’s containment against BJP poaching—Shinde senses rebellion brewing,’ she revealed.
The standoff pivots on alliance math: BJP’s top tally insufficient sans Shiv Sena votes for mayor. ‘Hotel stint leverages BJP’s vulnerability,’ Chaturvedi posited. Dismissing Mahayuti as the ‘great liar’ pact, she charged it with deceit-driven state capture and BMC ploys, sidelining citizens.
‘Mumbaikars deserve better than this sham,’ she declared. Addressing Bangladesh pullout, Chaturvedi cited endless atrocities—slayings, lynchings, minority Hindu risks, and India loathing—as rationale for family evacuations. ‘Hostile terrain demands prudent withdrawal,’ she affirmed, eyeing BMC’s unfolding saga.
