A fierce encounter between security forces and Naxals in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand has resulted in the reported deaths of 16 insurgents. The gunfight took place in the Kumdi region within the Saranda forest, a primary stronghold for Maoist activities. The operation was initiated by security forces after receiving actionable intelligence about a significant gathering of rebels planning an offensive. The specialized teams engaged the group in the Kiriburu and Chotanagra forest limits, leading to a decisive victory for the law enforcement agencies. Among the 16 killed, one is confirmed to be an ‘Inami’ (rewarded) Naxal, marking a serious dent in the group’s regional leadership. Higher officials are monitoring the situation as search and rescue operations continue in the dense foliage to recover bodies and weapons. This incident marks a turning point in the state’s ongoing campaign against Naxalism, demonstrating the increased efficacy of intelligence-led operations and better coordination among various security wings in the volatile Saranda region.
